New Jerusalem was birthed on May 1, 2001, on a Tuesday night “prayer and bible band†service. On that night 18 people arrived at Pastor & First Lady Thompson’s apartment in Newark, New Jersey, making them the first fruits of this new ministry.One month later, the Lord laid upon our Spiritual Church Mother’s heart to open her home for a Thursday night service where we were fed spiritually and naturally. Eventually, several members voluntarily opened their homes rotating these services. This began a tradition which spanned for 3 years.Not long thereafter, God favored Deacon Dwain Robinson, who arranged for us to have Sunday worship in the recreational center of his building without any rental fees for (9) months. The membership grew during this time and God moved by his spirit, saving souls and setting the captive free. Pastor Thompson continued his steadfast preaching and teaching until it was time for another move.In January 2002, God blessed Pastor & First Lady Thompson with their first home and they once again opened their doors to the congregation. New Jerusalem resumed worshipping God with our Pastor in his new home.
God moved his congregation to the Ramada Inn in Newark, New Jersey, where Sunday services were held and Tuesday night bible study continued in Pastor’s home. During this time, God was preparing us for something greater. Even though we were in the hotel, we knew God had a place for us to call home and the Ramada was just a temporary place of worship until God said move once again.In May of 2002, we celebrated our first church anniversary at the Masonic Temple in Rahway, NJ. None other than Bishop Singleton brought God’s word forth.
In December of 2003, while driving First Lady Thompson noticed a sign which read “Hall for Rent. Immediately, she knew this as the next place of worship for New Jerusalem. The era of the Italian American Hall was a proven ground for New Jerusalem. The church faced many challenges during the next 3 years, but God brought us through with His mighty power. We turned the hall into a place of worship as the members sought out guidance. Through prayer, God showed us favor as we sanctified the hall for the Master’s use.Pastor Thompson continued teaching bible-study on Tuesday nights where we learned more of God. Thursday nights were turned over to the Evangelist sharing the platform with men and women to whom the Lord had given a Word for the church; while others poured their hearts out seeking the Lord until they were fully delivered.In October of 2006, God had Adjutant Shelvin Corbitt hear a radio advertisement for a church rental. God finally answered the prayers of his people and said MOVE, but this time it was big. God who is true to His word blessed us to walk into our promise land and gave us a place of our very own to worship. Finally, on November 5, 2006, New Jerusalem moved into our current place of worship located at 121 New Street, Plainfield, New Jersey. Once in our new sanctuary God gave Pastor Thompson another revelation which led to Sunday morning worship renamed as Sunday Celebration; Bible Study renamed as Words of Wisdom (WOW); and Communion renamed as the Lord’s Supper.God once again spoke to our leader about another change. On January 1, 2007 New Jerusalem joined forces with Covenant Kingdom Ministries International under the auspicious leadership of our Presiding Prelate, Bishop Charles W. Harris Jr.Ministries birthed out of the vision given to our Founding Pastor:? Prison Ministry

New Jerusalem’s God-given purpose is to reach men and women through the Word of God, teaching repentance and faith in the precious blood of Jesus Christ will cleanse from sin. We believe the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit will preserve ones soul, while looking with great expectation for the soon return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.The church’s membership is steadily growing…according to God’s word and He is adding to the church such as should be saved.
