About Me

Salmon Muse is on Myspace!!!

...

But...what is Salmon Muse?

It's the Student Directed Festival for the University of Tasmania Theatre students in 2007!!
What is the Student Directed Festival? All of the third year students are directing a show as part of a unit of study at the School of Visual and Performing Arts. This year they have chosen to name their festival Salmon Muse! The process includes sourcing a play, auditioning actors for the roles and then a rehearsal period takes place before the shows are through to a full staging process.
Every Student at the SVPA will be involved in the festival, whether it be directing, acting, stage managing or working Front of House.
This year we have an extremely diverse range of texts. Slamon Muse has a collaboration of comedies, dramas, metatheatrical piecesand absurdism. Everyone can take something away from these performances and it will be a great night of theatre!
Third year Students gain alot from directing, not only external qualities, but also alot about themselves. They are given the chance to be a leader, learn about organisation, delegation, and getting to feed from their own creative vision. This is Festival is very much the highlight of the year!
But it's not only the directors that take away something special from the experience, it's also the cast and crew! Having a solid team and working together over a period of time creates some amazing friendships that will stay with you for the rest of your life. Having the experience to achieve a project as a team, using skills that are taught in a variety of classes is an amazing feeling!
Each play runs for approximately 30 minutes, so for one night of theatre, you could be experiencing anything upto 3 different performances! Salmon Muse will be held at the Annexe Theatre at the Academy of the Arts.
So come and support us! We need you for this to be a great festival of fresh, exciting, challenging and touching theatre.
Tickets are available at the door, but to be safe, book early! All shows start at 7pm, be there 15/20 minutes early to be safe!
Book through Debbie Sciulli between 9am-1pm, Mon-Thurs in the Cultural Activities Office, School of Visual and Performing Arts, Inveresk Campus.
