Niklas Roswall plays the swedish folk-instrument
nyckelharpa (keyed fiddle), and comes from Norra Kverrestad in the southernmost
Swedish province of Skåne.
He was awarded the title Riksspelman (national folk musician) 1992 and was
the winner of the Nyckelharpa World Championship 1996.
Niklas plays all kinds of nyckelharpas, but mostly the chromatic nyckelharpa,
the alto-nyckelharpa and the moraharpa.
He also plays the fiddle, offerdalspipa and härjedalspipa (traditional swedish
flutes).
He works fulltime as a freelance-musician in traditional Swedish music,
sometimes also in other styles of music.
Besides the work as a musician Niklas is also working as an arranger and
composer.
He is touring in Sweden and the world; both in his groups and solo.
Niklas gives workshops, and has been teaching part time at the Eric Sahlström
Institute for eight years.
He has also worked as a theatre musician at Orionteatern in Stockholm and
Riksteatern.
Niklas has a master in traditional music at the Royal College of Music in
Stockholm.
