NoHype Studio

About Me

Launched in April 2001, NoHype studio is an analogue recording studio, built with the great classic studios in mind like The Record Plant, Sunset Sound, Criteria, Wally Heiders, Hollywood Sound Recorders, Crystal Sound, etc. All the equipment is maintained in top condition, all the maintenance and modifications are done in-house. I'll do my best to make sure that tape recording remains a viable option for artists who just can't take the results obtained with digital systems. As far as engineering and production goes, I don't have particular music tastes but definitely favour classic Folk and Country Rock styles. I'm open and flexible as well as brutally honest and have no problem sending home clients who can't play their music properly. I won't waste the client's time and money if he's not ready to record because I know how tight budgets are these days... And in the end, the results speak for themselves... NoHype has also earned a good reputation for its homey vibe and relaxed, friendly athmosphere resulting in great performances. Please come in and browse around!

Band Members: JP Gerard, owner, manager and lead sound engineer
Influences: Glyn and Andy Johns, Eddie Kramer, Tom Dowd, Al Shmitt, Bill Szymczyk, Jim Messina, The Albert Brothers, Bill Halverson, Karl Richardson.......
Sounds Like: Late 60's to mid-late 70's Rock / Folk-Rock / Country-Rock / Blues / Funk / Reggae / etc etc. Basically, the sound heard on early Jackson Browne, Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young, JD Souther, Loggins & Messina, Poco, Dylan, The Band, The Grateful Dead, Joni Mitchell, the allman Brothers, Clapton, JJ Cale, Doobie Brothers, The Eagles, Joe Walsh, etc................................... The studio is based on a rebuilt and souped up 16 track tape machine, the signal chain is all analogue from the mics to the final CD-R. The next step after mixing is mastering of course, I can point a few places that should give you the results you want. Back to the studio: the mics and outboard are either from the 60's/70's or Reissues of equipment from back then. This all boils down to a sound which you simply can't get in a digital studio. All the gear is included in the hourly/daily price and everything works (not as obvious as it may first appear...). Feel free to browse the website for studio and sessions photos! Flexible hours and billing. Extra musical instruments and musicians available if booked in advance (prices vary), please ask...
