Randy Janoski Quartet

About Me

Born in the U.S. at Fort Knox Kentucky, Randy’s family moved to Orleans France later where he started playing the alto saxophone at age “10”, by age "12" he was sitting in with the jazz artists that were playing in Paris and Orleans and also at the U.S. Government and Military clubs at the casernes and bases there. Moving back to Washington D.C. in 1964 Randy began playing the tenor sax because of the sound of jazz, blues & R&B and rock in the U.S. at that time. Randy’s professional career really took off in the late 60's he played with The Lancers, Little Michael and the Majestics, The Heard, Northwest Passage, Lemonade Charade, worked at Stax in Memphis, Columbia in Nashville and in Muscle Shoals and played shows at Opryland. Randy then moved on and went out with The Flock and then The Crusaders with Wilt Felder and Herbie Phillips' Las Vegas Hilton Band. Then while in the military he played with the U.S. Army Band Europe while in Germany and then the Bicentennial Band. Back in the U.S. he picked up immediately with several groups again, The KC Jazz Masters, The Swing Kings, Kentucky Troubadours, played at Opryland again and ended up with the septet Sassy. Randy residence is outside of Nashville Tennessee. He plays soprano, tenor, alto and flute. Attended Austin Peay and the Music University of Baden-Württemberg (State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart). Randy stays active playing with his quartet, The Randy Janoski Quartet, and books out with groups and artists as a featured sax player and does studio sessions in Nashville and in Muscle Shoals. .. real editor best profile tools real editor best profile tools

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: antiguawinds.com/pages/artists_janoski.php
Band Members: Current members in the Quartet in the Nashville and Southern states areas are; Rick Stone drums, Bill Draffen bass and Herman DePriest piano.
Influences: Dexter Gordon, I was so lucky to have spent time and become a friend of his when he was in Valby, and I was living in Germany. Others would be, Grover Washington, Don Byas, Ben Webster, Coleman Hawkins, Lester young, Joe Henderson, Kenny Garrett, David Sanborn, Eddie Harris, Walt Parazaider, Bill Doggett and Boots Randolph.
Sounds Like: Me...who else...but wouldn't a sound mix of Dexter and Boots be something! On soprano I'm playing an Antigua Winds 586-LQ, I spent allot of time and research before finding what I believe is one of the finest sopranos (at any price!) made today. I'm honored to be a featured artist on their website. On tenor, I endorse Selmer and for many years played MKVIs, currently play a Reference 36, and I love it!

I endorse BARI mouthpieces
http://www.bariwoodwind.com/site/randyjanoski.html

On soprano I use a BARI Hard Rubber and a BARI Gold. On tenor I play on a BARI Hybrid and a BARI WTII. I use Rico Jazz Select on all.

My alto is a Buescher Big "B", it's a beautiful horn. My main mouthpiece for it is a Ralph Morgan Jazz large chambered 7. Ralph did this piece himself to compliment the "Big B" I play and sent it to me right before Christmas of 2006. My flute is a '68 Gemeinhardt M3S.
