steve earns his living making programmes but spends most of his time thinking about songs, songwriters, and music generally. The songs here are all performed by my old mate and drinking chum Pete Neame and one of the songs WINTER is a coproduction. As a first go at the myspace thing I've chosen a group of songs all inspired to a greater or lesser degree by Woody Guthrie. A few years ago I made a three hour epic on Woody entitled THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS (available in all good remainder bins) and these songs are a result of the time spent in the States in Woody's world. Briefly: DUSTY FOOTPRINTS is about Woody being a serial womaniser. Enough said. SO COLD is about visiting Coney Island and impressions of the place. 3520 is about that time in Woody's life when it all seemed to be going right for him until the death of his lovely daughter Cathy Ann. WINTER is very loosely based on the last section of my film where Woody is locked up in Greystone Mental Hospital. As is apparent - there aren't many laughs here! I dedicate these songs - for what they're worth - to Jimmy Longhi and Harold Leventhal - two great men in Woody's life who sadly died recently. Of the songs DUSTY FOOTPRINTS captures the spirit of Woody best as it's an upbeat song.
