As usual, I have never been one to rest on my laurels so I have been keeping myself realy busy. The Greenbacks album is not far from finished now. We're just recording the last 3 songs, then it's off to be mixed. Hopefully, Neil and I will be doing some acoustic gigs to give you a taster of the material.Rehearsals have been going well over the past 2 months for the FLIGHT 30 year reunion gig, planned for next year. Flight was the first band I ever played with. We learnt our instruments together, from scratch! The band members were introduced to each other by a mutual friend as we all trained at Birkenhead Amature Boxing Club, at the enterance to Mersey Park gates.Steve Boyd, Ian Moran, Simon Kearns and myself, were and still are, complete Beatles nutters! It was this obsesion with the fab four that gelled us together. The year was 1973By 1976 we had become decent musicians, taking regular bookings. Just as things looked settled, the time to leave school was thrust upon us. Ian stayed on in 6th form, Steve went on to a welding apprenticeship, I started my bricklaying apprenticeship and just to throw a spanner in the works, Simon joined the Royal Navy. 1978 started to look gloomy for the band. There was a silver lining though. As we waved Simon off on his maiden voyage, another old school friend, Richie Green, said that he would love to join us.Richie and I formed a good partnership on guitars, and the band started to move in other directions. It is also around this time that Steve and I really forged our songwriting partnership, which is still a working partnership to this day.The band went from strength to strength. 1979 ended with us recording in Rochdale with John Briely, the man who later went on to discover New Order and many other "Madchester" bands. As with all first bands, there comes a time to move on to pastures new.We went our seperate ways sometime in 1981.Steve packed in live work completely, but continued to write. We still write together.Ian continued to play drums in various bands.Simon stayed in the Navy for near on 25 years.Richie played with me in 4 Wheel Drive up till 1983. He then switched from guitar to sax, his second instrument, and went on to join Little Italy in 1985.I joined up with Richie in Little Italy in 1986.The rest i suppose, as they say, is history! We all feel that things have come full circle and it feels great to be playing together again.Besides the music, I am just over the moon at having my old mates around me and in my life again.I'd forgot just how much I loved them!
