Music of Seville were formed by brothers Stephen and Mark Roberts, guitarist Phil Trwoga and bass player Tom Ruppel with the idea of combining the depth and strangeness of folk music with their own compositions and with a more free form, experimental and improvising approach to performance. They quickly gained a reputation for intense and powerful live shows, often augmenting the core group with strings, brass and miscellaneous bowed, hit and plucked instruments.
The sound of the band has evolved over time with Tom leaving to be replaced by Richard James and listening to them now you’ll hear dark, avant folk combined with swathes of feedback, tape loops, drones and improvisation. Always at the heart of the noise though, lies a set of haunting and fragile songs.
