Simon Campbell aka Young Promise began rapping at the age of 15 free styling in school corridors and tearing up various open mic nights, under the name Nomis ( Simon backwards) or BIG NOM. The 23 year old from South London, East Dulwich slowed down when he got baptized June 06 at the age of 17, not knowing that there was such thing as Christian rap. It wasn’t till Simon called up Choice FM on a Friday night and had a battle with Christian rap artist Jahaziel that he was exposed to Christian rap. The same year Simon became real close to Ethan (Mr E) who built him his first very own beat, entitled ‘After every dark night’ Simon went from Church to church performing this track building his confidence, Mr E took Simon under his wing and taught him fundamentals like timing and staying on the beat right.
Young Promise was born, sold out for Christ and ready to keep the enemy under his foot, and sneak up on the game.
Simon also began preaching at the at the age of 20, and became popular in local churches for bringing a humorous and life changing sermon.
Simon’s aim is to see souls saved, delivered, set free and edified by his ministry. Young Promise has just released his debut Album entitled ‘Temporary Assignment’ which he believes well be a success not only in the Church but on the streets. Simon had the pleasure of working with long term friend and mentor Ian Pitter on this album, as well as Lain, Marsha Garrick, Mr E, and many more.
Young Promise brings to the mic street maturity, with a laid back flow, with witty punch lines, and serious metaphors. He has also recently began producing, and built a track on his album entitled ' Street Life'.
Young Promise is looking to take the streets by storm and is already working on another solo effort.
