I am here for Friends

About Me

I like to stay busy. I can be fairly intense and am very goal-oriented, but I also love to go out and unwind. I am not one to stay in one place in life for long, and am generally ready and willing to experience almost anything at least once, especially if it will challenge me. I love traveling, but as a workaholic my schedule typically doesn't allow for it until I hit a transition phase. ____________________________________________________________ I'm mostly conservative but can't stand the current administration (that's a LONG conversation, but isn't that how politics goes?). After getting back from Iraq I got very interested in foreign policy, politics, and our national leaders. I hate the two-party system, and I give respect to politicians who are willing to cross party lines. UPDATE: Ron Paul has given me a man to rally behind, and I am now joining the attempt to save the Republican party from the present hostile takeover by the big spending, liberal warring, social freedoms attacking neoconservative branch of Republican ideology. ____________________________________________________________ __ I am dedicated to old friends, and the rare opportunities I get to hang out with them are the best times. But I'm always looking to meet new people! I believe life should be a constant growing experience, and that you must be willing to challenge your comfort zones and examine yourself and what you believe. If it is worth holding on to, it will survive your examination. If it does not, you will be a wiser, better person. ____________________________________________________________ __ My big obsession lately is planning a Jimmy Johns franchise back in my high school stomping grounds of Dixon, IL. I've wanted my own business for a long, long time, and a franchise is a great step I think. It should be open around spring of 2008. ____________________________________________________________ __ Big thanks to Dan and Katie Royer for the awesome wedding pictures you see on the site! Still recovering from Audioslave's break-up. Bah. My favorite band is probably Sublime...RIP Bradley. My tastes cover a huge range from classical to punk to rap to pop and all over in-between. I'm a big fan of local live bands and local music scenes.

Movies:

Kurosawa's Seven Samurai is the greatest movie of all time. More recently I liked Pitch Black and The Departed.

Books:

I'm waiting for the next chapter in the Wheel of Time series. Summer reading included: The Audacity of Hope, Eragon, Eldest, State of Denial, The Chronicles of Narnia (again), Business By The Book, Shogun, and Why Government Can't Save You. Read and researched most of Tinderbox, The Arab-Israeli Wars, A History of the Modern Middle East, and literally hundreds of newspaper articles. Currently reading Machiavelli's The Prince. I'm debating Tolstoy's War And Peace next, but I've tried starting that once before...we'll see. I like to bounce back and forth between heavy reading (often towards a specific topic) and novels, especially fantasy. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings has probably been my favorite reading, even long before the movies made it what it is today.

Heroes:
