From the world of:
MOVIES: Kevin Smith, Robert Rodriguez, and Michael Mann. I respect the independent routes Smith and Rodriguez took before their mainstream exposures and how their newer works still reflect that "indy vibe." As for Mann, the visual style and look to his movies are hauntingly memorable and his shootout action scenes are among the best.
SPORTS: Magic Johnson and Muhammad Ali. To a die-hard Laker fan like me, Magic is the man and always will be. As for The Greatest... c'mon, who wouldn't want to meet Ali?
MUSIC: Prince and DJ Q-bert. Though he went through a period there that he didn't release anything of note, his newest album "3121" has shown that the purple one is still a genius (although "3121" is more a throwback to his earlier works). Being a former DJ myself, I have a biased affinity for the turntablist culture and the skills it spawned. Coming up through my highschool years, Q was a local legend I looked up to and witnessing his rise from spinning at local highschools to packing in crowded concert halls on the international stage is just incredible.
As for those that are now a part of history, some deceased figured I would have like to have met are:
* Bruce Lee - More than a martial arts movie star, he was truly ahead of his time and a man of revolutionary ideas and philosphies. Martial arts in general would be nowhere near the level of exposure and acceptance it enjoys now without Bruce Lee and his contributions.
* Ansel Adams - With myself being a self-professed shutterbug/photo-phile, his photos are timeless, breathtaking, immersive, and iconic to me. If I only ever capture one single image in my whole life and that image drew comparisions to any Ansel masterpiece, I'd consider myself lucky, undeserving, and honoured at the same time.
