Digit (Matt Ward) has been spinning funky, dark, kinetic, and soul-stirring music for 8 years in a variety of club and underground locations in Halifax, Toronto, and Hsin-Chu, Taiwan.
Digit’s DJ journey began in the realm of drum and bass and hip hop while studying psychology and neuroscience at Dalhousie University, Halifax. A jazz-influenced drum and bass mix-tape caught the attention of local promoter Scott Da Ross (now label owner of endemik records) and Digit soon found himself gigging at the Marquee (Halifax) on a monthly basis where he began to gather a small following. During the time, Digit also made guest appearances at Moka Café’s weekly dnb sessions.
Digit's love for the funky,dark,kinetic side of dnb never faded but he started to find less inspiration in the beats that represented the current dnb scene. He also started to chill out....
Hip Hop has always been a love for Digit and in the summer of '04 his friend Don (Sizzle) re-introduced him to hip hop in the form of funky house at a series of Toronto after hours parties. A year in Toronto gave Digit a short course in the Toronto tech house sound. At the same time that he was developing his house skills and music collection he continued to dig for hip hop. Digit continues to focus his djing/producing on hip hop and house.
Digit's eclectic tastes and keen ear from years of classical violin training give him a depth that allows him to connect with a wide and diverse audience. This diamond in the rough has remained relatively underground but amongst a circle of up and coming Toronto dj/producers he is respected for his skills and unique blending abilities.
More recently, Digit finds himself in Taiwan where he continues to pursue djing/producing and chinese-water torture : ) Stay tuned....
