Poor Slob and Good Fairy Film

About Me

I am a silent film based on an 1899 Cabaret script by Parisian Alphonse Allais. Allais was a leading light of the Parisian cabaret scene at the time, and this story is typical of the Hippolates cabaret who he produced his work with. The scene is set by a singing waiter, a failed singer with a voce from the heavens. Enter The Poor Slob, a man so down-on-his luck that he simply has no more, save an enduring taste for absinthe. The Poor Slob makes a wish and in so doing summons The Good Fairy, a genie who is only summoned by a certain combination of desire and absinthe. The Good Fairy offers our Poor Slob much much more than he ever bargained for!
My stars are Lola The Vamp, superstar of contemporary burlesque (www.myspace.com/lolathevamp, www.lolathevamp.net), as The Good Fairy Mina Von Lustern: super male star of burlesque, as The Waiter, and Eric Meredith: dillentente as The Poor Slob. Each gives a performance of pure joy.
I also feature a scene from Lola The Vamp's L'Absinthe Fontain number, famous for being described in Australia's national paper, The Australian in 2003, and often imitated, but never quite matched! After my debut at Cannes in 2007, I became a component of Lola's live show Bohemia, which enjoyed a sold out national tour of Australia.
