~River Totems~ (www.rivertotems.com) Reflections of Perspective~ Dreamy, poetic, tribal, as a part of nature. I always felt something deeper and different than what society around me was teaching. The way I digested my very confusing teenage years, was to spend daily solo time in the San Bernadino Mountains. With nature, I found a safe place to reflect on myself and the world. Nature is free from projections, and full of reflections. Nature reflects back to us, the truth. We reflect back to it our love and fears. What we see is, “ourselves”. It was then that I began to understand that we project our love and fear into our perspective of reality, and my life was then changed forever.In my photo collection of water reflections, I have images that may be disturbing at times. I ask myself why do they disturb me? And why other ones bring me peace and awe? Why would one be a demon one day, and the same image be an angel the next day? What is going on in these places deep within myself from where I am looking out, and making the judgment of right or wrong, or dark or light.In a time when so many are disconnected from natural world, River Totems can facilitate a spiritual journey back to nature. I feel like these images effect us, in a similar way that meditating on a sacred geometry piece expands our consciousness. The nature spirits found in the seam of the rivers reflections are faces of consciousness, just as we ourselves are. We are molded by our experiences, our families, our climate, our lifestyles, our beliefs, etc. I have found that the River Totems manifest the memories and vibrations of their surrounding area. My goal is to explore rivers all around the planet.
