About Me

ABOUT ANTONIO BERTONI: Born during the hot 1977 in Piacenza, Italy. He started on the electric bass in his teens playing a lot of rock, funk and jazz-rock. Then he approached the double bass and a lot of way of using this instrument studying clalssical music at the Piacenza’s Conservatory with Leonardo Colonna, jazz music with Attilio Zanchi and by himself, jazz piano with Umberto Petrin and also workshops around improvisation and instrumental technique with Barre Phillips, Gino Robair, Thomas Lehn, Roberto Dani,Amy Denio and others. He also studies tabla and Hindustani music with Pritam Singh of the Birmingham based Ravi College, a great master of this ancient tradition, sharing this big interest about rhythm and perception between different cultures’ worlds : the various African traditions, also studying with Dramane Konatè a djembefolà from Burkina Faso and with the south-african Joe Legwabe, the Gamelan music, the Gnawa music of Marocco and a lot of old and new forms of music. He is currently working on different projects and different ways of playing always looking for the new based on the very old and for non conventional brain maps. He performed two works at the Biennale di Venezia with Umberto Petrin and alone with the poet Aldo Roda , projects about the great artist Joseph Beuys . He is also the assistant of U. Petrin at the “workshop on imagination” where together with Stefano Benni they work around the connections between spoken words and music. ANTONIO BERTONI: Comincia suonando molto rock, funk e jazz-rock con il basso elettrico.
