Recently Awarded Honorable Mention by Aaron J. Kernis and the Minnesota Orchesta Composer Institute 2007 for "Cenotaph"Mr. Ghiradella is an accomplished drummer and has toured in the US, Europe and Canada in rock and jazz bands. At an early age, Tarik began studying at the New York Percussion Academy learning from such legendary drummers as Dom Famularo, Jim Chapin, Kenny Arnoff (John Mellancamp), Steve Gadd (Chick Corea, Paul Simon), Joel Rosenblatt (Spiro Jyra, Michelle Camillo) and Joe Morello (Dave Brubeck Quartet).
As a composer, Mr. Ghiradella’s music is largely informed by his experience as a drummer.
Tarik Ghiradella has written for the choir at Grace Church Brooklyn Heights, New Band, American String Quartet, Astoria Symphony. In the February 2001 issue of Classical Singer Magazine Tarik Ghiradella was featured in an article entitled The Art of Collaboration. The article spoke of his collaborative effort with soprano and poet Annette Nauraine; the song cycle entitled Songs From the Front Porch was premiered at the Caramoor summer music festival. Recently the Philharmonia of Greensboro premiered Sons and Daughters, a grand and programmatic work for tape and orchestra commissioned by the Alamance Arts Council. In 2007, his orchestra piece Cenotaph was given honorable mention by Aaron J. Kernis and the Minnesota Orchestra Composer Institute.
Upcoming projects and performances include the premier of Chrysalis for string orchestra, a repeat performance of Sons and Daughters for the bicentennial celebration of the city of Greensboro, NC and The Fields for string quartet and orchestra commissioned by the Jackson Symphony and the Ebony String Quartet.
