About Me

Bravura is an artistic word for “exceptional,” and is what we strive to provide. For the first time, a magazine has been created which defines the South Asian culture and experience for its brilliance and radiance, and at the same time blends together the rich South Asian culture into the flourishing Western culture. Founded in 2007, Bravura Artist is a different kind of magazine for South Asians. Published online, Bravura Artist is your complete source for all things South Asian. While you’ll find the requisite vogue, beauty and entertainment, you will also see stories on politics and various trends in the South Asian community, profiles of affluent South Asians, and introspective pieces about what it means to have an identity that is both South Asian and American. Band Members: Tirusha Dave, Editor-In-Chief & Founder
Having attained her B.A. in English, with a concentration in writing, Tirusha’s forte is comprised of music, media and entertainment. In over two years she has interviewed prominent personalities in the South Asian community such as Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat, movie producer Kunal Kohli, singers Jay Sean & Raghav, actress Purva Bedi, and Hip-Hop duo Noreaga & Capone…to name a few. Alongside a warm smile & personality, she’s cool, confident, and convinced that anything and everything she does will always have a high level of class and sophistication. Before starting Bravura Artist, Tirusha was a freelance writer for magazines such as Nirvana Woman, Rivaaj Magazine, City Masala, and The Indian American. Bravura Artist has always been a “dream” for Tirusha and now she has opened her mind to the world and is letting everyone experience her vision. As Tirusha asserts: “Be Yourself! Be Bravura! Be Exceptional!“

Abhi Nerukar, Co-Founder
Born in NYC, raised in Jersey and learned life’s most important lessons in Manhattan. Abhi owns a management consulting company specializing in Business Intelligence software for Fortune 100 companies. For Bravura Artist, Abhi plays many roles, including but not limited to Business and Advertising Director, Technology and Web Direction, and professional coffee maker. Abhi brings experience from companies such as MTV, IBM, and small web startups. With a passion for music of all kinds, Discovery Channel, and sports, Abhi enjoys food the most and will try anything at least once!

Dr. Niket Sonpal, Medicine, Health/Wellness & Fitness Editor
Mark Twain said it best, “Be careful about reading health books. You may die of a misprint”. As the editor for all things medical I basically get to do delve into the “nitty gritty” about South Asians and medicine - health - fitness and yes I dare say it…relationships! So if you have a question, go ahead and page me, ill be there to advice you STAT. Hope you enjoy my columns - “Paging Dr. Sonpal” and “Men’s Wealth.”

Kunal Patel, Music Editor
These are my thoughts and opinions, as unbiased as they possibly can be. Yes, I will shit on your favorite rapper. Yes, I will redefine your meaning of the word “classic”. And yes, oh yes, I will value my opinion in this matter more than yours; After making “Laffy Taffy” a certified hit, ya’ll deserve to have your passes revoked. It’s about time somebody reprimanded the masses for entertaining the watered-down bullshit that passes for hip-hop these days.

One thing most people wonder about Rajni is where she’s from! Her parents are from Guyana and Suriname and both speak Hindi and Dutch (official Suriamese language). However, her ancestors are from Uttar Pradesh and she’s definitely one South American chick who treasures her Indian roots. She can take it back to her diaper days watching Indian movies…and she still does! Most people know her for always smiling and she likes to see those around her happy as well. She loves music and life is just as melodious and is filled with so many different tunes. It is a musical of different emotions and experiences and as Frederick Delius once said, “Music is an outburst of the soul.”

Nikita Patel, Fashion Editor
That Cali chick with a worldwide heart for fashion, Nikita Patel strives to take all the scrapes she’s got in her hands and go couture! When it comes to clothes, dancing, marketing (or any other passion she pursues), Nikita strives to be a hustla day in and out for the sole purpose of turning every opportunity she loves into what she DOES…And never forgetting to follow her motto to: “Be singular in a plural world.” So when it comes to Bravura Artist Magazine, Nikita’s here to share her oh-so-fashionable brain waves with you with one goal in mind…Inspiring those exceptional BAM readers to adopt her personal mantra as their own! Priyanka Gianchandani, Specialist Graphic Designer
Not only is Priyanka a Sindhi model who’s worked with lines such as Cashe, New York & Company, and Banana Repblic, but she also aspires to become a Bollywood actress. In addition to that, she’s our Specialist Graphic Designer! Have no fear…Priyanka’s here! Currently a student at Rutgers University, she’s a Biochemistry/Pre-Med major with a minor in Theatre Arts. So where does designing come into play? “It’s always something which I’ve loved to do for fun. Photoshop is amazing once you get used to it,” she says! Keep an eye out for this one…one and off the ramp, and also all throughout Bravura Artist!

Monica Patel, Intern - University of Rochester
Monica (please don’t break out in Monica, Oh My Darling, lol), is a student at the University of Rochester. Born in Los Angeles, California, she’s not a typical Desi chica majoring in environmental science and a minor in Spanish. She loves anthropology and music. At Eastman School of Music she will be pursuing a certificate in World Music! She enjoys running, choreographing dances for the South Asian group on campus, traveling and exploring different places, and listening to music from all over the world.

Bianca Amin, Intern
Bianca has the spunk and personality needed for the fast-paced fashion industry! She’s already rubbing shoulders with models and designers during couture events, and that’s just in between homework assignments! Bianca’s hobbies include listening to music, dancing, and of course, as every other girl, shopping till she drops!

Mona Gianchandani, Intern
Mona was born dancing and that’s how she lives life…one jhalak at a time! She brings a sense of spunk and pizzaz to the Bravura team, whether it’s attending Bollywood events or interviewing celebs from SaReGaMaPa! Whether it’s reppin’ her Sindhi or Punjabi pride, she’s PROUD to be Desi and doesn’t care who she shows it off too! There’s gotta be some old proverb to prove this right, but as “the saying” goes…the smaller the firecracker, the lounder the bang…and Mona is one LOUD FIRECRAKER!

Jenny Mathew, Intern
Jenny is the personification of crazyness and brings all that and much more to the Bravura team. She’s simply too cool for a description at the moment! But the one thing about Jenny…her favorite Desi artist is Nivla! “He’s got that sexy rapper voice,” she keeps on saying as she stares off into space!
