Morrissey spent her college years as a sculpture major at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and later developed her own style of etching and painting on plaster. For several years she worked at a local radio station, but it wasn’t until her late 20s, that she picked up a guitar. Soon after, she took on the job of Studio Manager at Philadelphia’s Miner Street Recordings, and began to write and record her songs.
For the earliest Novenas recordings, friend and drummer Ric Menck (The Velvet Crush, Matthew Sweet, The Tyde) flew from his home in Los Angeles to play drums and lend his much sought wisdom. Morrissey, along with bassist John Sheehan and Miner Street producer/guitarist Brian McTear (Mazarin, Matt Pond PA, Espers) completed the record. In 2006, drummer Pat Berkery (The Bigger Lovers, The Pernice Brothers) joined the Novenas.
Morrissey and McTear became co-owners of Miner Street when they built their new studio in 2005. Together they have engineered, produced and or mixed records for The A-Sides, Apollo Sunshine, Bitter bitter weeks, Bryan Scary and the Shredding Tears, BC Camplight, Danielson, Hoots and Hellmouth and many, many more.
