ModMySpace Profile Customizer Author, S. “Beast” Cottrell, the youngest of four children, was born and came of age in the city of Cambridge, Ma, which is also the home of highly esteemed Harvard University, just outside of Boston.Cottrell grew up within a very supportive house hold, with two loving parents that he considers to be his best friends, three older brothers, one who passed away at the age of 17 while playing basketball, eerily similar to Boston Celtics basketball star, Reggie Lewis and an older sister, who lost her battle with AIDS at age 34, in 2000.Excelling in athletics and academia as a youth, Cottrell was destined to succeed after his completion of high school at the age of 17. But the same curiosity, which motivated him to dabble in drug hustling at the age of 12, tempted him again, as an adult. The educational lessons of the streets seemed far more interesting to Cottrell than those taught in a formal classroom setting and soon after dropping out of college, the author found himself incarcerated.While serving a 2 year long sentence, Cottrell was motivated to write “Jaws of Death”, his first book (and the first release of a three book series*), the very morning after finishing Donald Goines “Whoreson”, which was also the first complete book that Cottrell had ever read. He connected with and related to Goines’ experiences of street life and the way he transferred those experiences into pages and pages of literary imagery.Cottrell viewed his incarceration as learning experience and a stepping-stone, rather than a set back and used the situation as motivation to better himself. After being released in 2001, Cottrell, continued to read, write and derived inspiration from young, successful African American entrepreneurs such as Sean “Jay-Z” Carter and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. In 2002, Cottrell established and incorporated his first business and currently runs a book-publishing company, record label, DJ Company, modeling agency and three different types of DVD magazines.Although being an enterprising man gives S.
