Ex Zoopy Guitarist Sean Moore, and ex Introphonic Function drummer Jesse Kruse have once again joined together musically to form the new group Permagrin.
Old friends, Jesse (drums, keys, bass, guitar, electro-maddness) and Sean (guitars, bass, keys, weirdness) have a stash of great songs, and great musicianship that they strive to practice to perfection on a live stage and on albums.
Combining basic rock sensibilities, electronic beats, a deep love of Phychedelica, funk, punk, folk, ska, jazz, 90's, zappa, etc, Permagrin is setting out to create their own special and unique sound for the people.
Zoopy Funk founder, genius, old friend, and puppet master, Jody Morris Gelbart also plays an important role as the band lyricist and song writter on the majority of the songs.
The story and background of Permagrin is a long and ever changing evolving event that originally started out as a band called Zoopy Funk.
Joe started Zoopy Funk in the Mid 90's.
Joined by twin Brother Jesse Gelbart on Guitar, and drumming master/childhood friend Doug Port (Zoopy, Undersea Passage, San Francisco Mime Troupe), the early Zoopy incarnation soon took shape as a very seriosly mental puppet rock band.
At one point some years later zoopy had around a dozen members and were playing under the name "Zoopy Funk Theater and the Yard Dogs Roadshow".
Jesse Gelbart sadly sucumbed to mental illness and faded out of the music scene. Many guitarist spent short periods of time as replacements, and the Yard Dogs Roadshow seperated from Zoopy to find their own Fortune and fame and make a name for themselves.
Sean V. Moore, dubbed "seanybaby", by Doug Port joined the band sometime in 2001 as the bands principle guitarist.
For the next 4 to 5 years zoopy was a power trio, playing wharehouses, college parties, bars, and festivals around northern California.
All the while being based out of Oakland, living togather in the "Zoopy House".
In late 2005 after suffering from health problems and a hand injury, Sean Moore left the band and moved to Seattle to soul searh and heal.
Playing the last show with them as a special guest in Portland summer 2006.
A few weeks later Zoopy Funk broke up.
Joe took his puppets and took his new band, Zoopy show, in a different musical direction.
And where does that leave us now?
Sean Moore Joined forces with old friend and musical cohort Jesse Kruse (drums, Keys, Guitars, bass), and ex-band mate Jody Gelbart (Lyrics, song writer), to create the new band Permagrin.
An evolution of a band. Songs that refuse to die.
Great musical explorations on stage, smart song writing,
And the spirit and boldness of the early 90's
