So the story may be a familiar one to many people reading this, and it goes like this. Two blokes meet at art school (The College of Fine Arts, Sydney, if you must know), and after four years of drawing, painting, doing some teaching in between, getting hammered with conservative art attitudes and generally bowing down to the juggernaut that is high art, they walked out the other end still loving the low art that inspired them. With no desire to do the teaching for which they were now qualified, they stuck their ugly mugs together and decided to start a company of their own designing skateboards. Come on how hard could it be?
So now the stars of this story, Seamus (Fame or Moose, as he will most often be referred to) and Michael (He will be called Mike or Mick not so exciting) decided to get a Myspace and start showing their work to the world. As of February 2007, S and M Skateboards (Seamus and Mike that stands for not the naughty stuff you were thinking of) was born.
So what about the works themselves? Well, we both have done drawing and painting majors at uni, which pretty much gives us the skills to pay the bills when it comes to the technical aspects of things. That being said, the styles that we have are diverse and different, but hey, they are equally funkalicious. Every board you see on here is a one of a kind hand drawn and painted work, lovingly crafted with the utmost care for its would be new owner. You see something you like? Drop us a line, because they are certainly all for sale.
You can also throw us an email at
[email protected] if you like. Other then just selling these sexy planks of wood we also are getting involved in a few exhibits around Sydney, subverting the art world from within and without, so keep a lookout on our blog to know when this stuff is going down. Oh, and we are both most definitely looking for board designing jobs, whether they be surf, skate, snow, whatever. As long as we can make it look hot.
