Vania Vatralova- Stankov

About Me

Born in Varna, Bulgaria, Vania started learning the violin and singing at the tender age of five. Her prodigy voice was soon discovered and she was accepted as soloist at the Youth Opera Company, where she performed the leading roles in various productions on tour in Prague, Salzburg and Vienna, and recorded for the National Bulgarian TV.
She graduated in both violin and singing with the highest qualifications, later moved to Spain to pursue her further studies and was awarded a full scholarship by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science. Vania was appointed co-principal violin at the City of Elche Chamber Orchestra where she played as soloist on many occasions. Later on she decided to relinquish her position in the orchestra in order to fully pursue her singing career. Vania has done Master Classes with Renata Scotto, Montserrat Caballé and Mirella Freni, amongst others.
She made her debut in Madrid with the Royal Opera School Company, in Verdi’s La Traviata (Violeta’s role), followed by Mozart’s Cossi Fan Tutti (Fiordelligi’s role) and Don Giovanni (Anna’s role). Her performances were featured in TV series broadcast on the National Spanish Television (TVE), and Antena 3 TV.
After graduating Vania moved to London, and since then she has performed with the Welsh National Opera Studio under critical acclaim in the title roles of Dvorak’s Rusalka, Verdi’s La Traviata and Donizetti’s Anna Bolena. She was awarded the Donizetti Award for two consecutive years. In 2006 Vania took part in the production of Donizetti’s Ana Bolena for the Tower of London Festival, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
She has performed the major Oratorio repertoire with many orchestras, such as Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra and London Gala Orchestra, and has worked under the baton of Alexander Kantorov, Alex Ingram and Georgio Leardini, to name but a few.
Vania has participated at International Festivals, such as Belcanto Dordrecht (Holland), Varna Summer, Sofia Summer Days, and Peralada, Barcelona, which was broadcast on Catalan National TV.
As well as numerous recordings for TV and Radio Vania recorded a CD entitled Misterio de Elche (Mystery of Elche) with early music, declared by UNESCO as Patrimony of the Humanity Treasure. She also recently recorded her debut CD of “Operatic Favorites”, with the Sofia Symphony Orchestra.
