after breaking up with my crew TOP NOTCH PRODUCTIONS in 1991, i set out to collaborate with some other heads. i got heavily into sampling records in 1988. TNP wanted to go a diferent route, so we ventured off into opposite directions. one night I was hanging out by the OFFRAMP taking a break from a show, and a bunch of kids were hanging out playing some dope hip hop from a car. I walked right over to them and gave them props on the selection and said that i had to know who had chose the music. they directed me to Eric. we talked about MAINSOURCE and how everyone was sleepin' on LARGE PRO. i had already heard one of Eric's beats on the radio. he was in a group called ROME. i had the track on tape and had been bumping it for about a week previous. we started linkin' up everyday after that. diggin' and studying breaks. we started making some freestyle tapes out at his apartment. this is also where i met KING OTTO. at some point we decided to make a group. I came up with ELEVATOR MUSIC. Eric said ELEVATORS sounded better. I agreed. I started gathering samples for the first few joints. I was using a MIRAGE at the time , so all i could do was loop shit. i started bringing loops over to Eric's because he had a slightly better sampler. (AKAI APX7000) he would add drums to the loops, and together we would arange the tracks. the first song we recorded i could not locate. it was called ELEVATOR MUSIC. the first song on the player I decided to call the same thing since I can't seem to remember what it was called originaly. (senile)actualy, the first song we did was a remix of a song I did with TNP called KEEP TREKIN'. E SHARP collaborated with B MAX on that beat. and TEXTSTYLES added raps. NO INFO was the same format as ELEVATOR MUSIC. I pretty much arranged it on the MIRAGE and had E. SHARP do it again on the AKAI. THE BRAIN and BACK IN IT were produced by E. SHARP he wanted to shine some on these tracks because of the formula of the first few cuts. however the original to BACK IN IT was to be the featured version which I also produced, and many feel the begining asthetic was lost. I would have to agree. there were also a few cutz i recorded with TEXSTYLES and PAGE 3 under the name ELEVATORS. i have these on a dat somewhere. if i find them i will put them up. big up to all parties involved. it was a golden time to be sure. just don't sleep on the present, cause it do not stop! oh and if anyone out there has a copy of our first and only video, please get at me with a copy. mine was stolen awhile back. i need it!
