Kholekile Buyana, a.k.a J.B was born on the 12 of June 1979 in Gugulethu, Cape Town. He started singing at an early age in primary school as a lead vocalist for the school choir and he has not looked back ever since.
In 1996 he got actively involved in community projects, â€Thembaâ€- teaching primary school kids about safety on the trains through song and dances, to HIV Aids awareness programs, geared at HIV in the workplace and the prejudices surrounding the disease.
In 1999 he started singing in the group Inadiflo, Cape Town’s kwaito and R&B premiere group which consisted of three members. The group was signed under Sony Records, which is now called Sony BMG and they released an album called Halala, produced by Gabi Le’Roux.
In 2002 they got signed onto Mother City Records and this resulted in the release of their second album called Ses’khona La.Inadiflo shared the stage with Rebecca Malope, Brenda Fassie, Mafikizolo and Zola to name but a few.
They performed to over 35 000 people at the Africa Day celebrations.
They have performed on television shows, 'Backstage', Castle Loud, Simunye 'One' and Morning Live'.
They were featured in countless national newspapers and magazines of which the highlight was the cover of the Sunday Times in Nov 2003.The group had two singles riding high on GHFM and P4 Radio: 'Tonight’s the Night' and 'Umtwana Wase Kasi'.The single ‘Get On Up’, received and is still receiving major airplay countrywide, and for the first time they got play listed on 5FM Radio reflecting their crossover appeal and the commercial viability of their sound both nationally and internationally.
In 2005 J.B joined Mo’Fire Records as a solo artist. This was an opportunity to learn more about music production which he has skillfully mastered and executed remarkably. He is now the Head of Production at Mo’Fire Records.
In 2007, he started working on his solo album, titled Uthando. He wrote most of the songs on the album. He also worked with different producers, songwriters and artists, Pat a.k.a Mshumayeli from 247 Records, D rex from Groove Luv Records, Ntokozo Zungu from Stimela, Mtezman from AliceLibo Music, Mongameli John, Martin Phike from Ghetto Lingo, Dumisani Gumbi , Kop Seer, Gaba and Zaheer Bagus from Bohegan Production.One major highlight in his career was when he got chosen as a back up vocalist for Josh Groban and Dianna Ross when they toured South Africa and performed in Cape Town.He has also done a collaboration with an American Hip Hop Group, Taste Emcees, see myspace.com/vivafidelJ.B’s debut solo album, Uthando is a 15 track album and is of the African Pop genre.
