The Urban Project was born out of a passion for change. Dean was dragged up in the care system of the seventies. Influenced heavily by the rock music of The Who, Paul Weller and the funky style of the Sugar Hill Gang the seeds of a passion for music was born. Along came the discovery of Pink Floyd and cannabis.Of course the acid house ecstasy fuelled rave scene took hold of the imagination of the youth culture, from the waiting in the designated spot for the word on the venue for the next illegal rave to the taking of this new and exciting tablet that seemed to make the world alright to live in, not to mention the loved up euphoria filled nights, its no wonder half of "my generation" said f**k off to the Thatcherite dole queues and did their own thing. The problem for many was not having the abilty to say no. When is enough enough? To Dean this is where it all started. ten years passed and not much happened largely due to being lost in this never ending fantasy world that soon became a harsh prison. Locked away in a dark prison for ten years, its no wonder when finally realising drugs were not the answer Dean discovered his creative dreams of the early eighties where what was driving him to change and get his message across to the world. Dean joined a theatre group in boscombe, but this was no ordinary theatre group. Vita Nova (meaning "New Life") where entirely made up of recovering people from all walks of life. Tha main body of their work was to carry this message to schools and teach young people that if you roll the dice then addiction is a very real possiblity!! Dean met Ryan a "genius" and born performer within six months the Urban Project was born. Dean's main role was as a producer, totally winging it but with a lot of passion and the ability to put that passion into other people. After being talked into performing his own lyrics and being given the MC name Project the alter ego was born. Its so hard to get away from writing what you know about, hence the lyrics you hear but i guess as life moves on so will the content. signing off Dean AKA MC Project.
