About Me

The Storm Society, like so many other bands, was born from the dying embers of previous musical careers. Stuart Kemsley was inspired by some musical journalist's comments refering to his guitar sound as "a turbulent musical storm". It wasn't until Stuart moved back to his native Scotland from London that the concept of The Storm Society began to take shape. Feverishly writing new material, Kemsley sourced some of the best musical talent in Glasgow for his new project. First on board was local drummer and full time headcase Nathan Caldwel fondly known as The Mad Turk. Nathan caught Stuart's attention when he saw Caldwell doing a performance at the Taiko School of Drumming. Suffiently impressed with his thunderous tribal drumming style Kemsley offered Nathan a place in the band. A short while later they were contacted by guitartist James Morgan who was interested in getting involved in the project. Morgan had just moved to Glasgow from Barrow in Furness in the North of England as he wanted to be part of the virbrant Glasgow music scene. Blown away by James' majestic style of playing Caldwell and Kemsley wasted no time getting him onboard. It wasn't long before young aspiring musician Kenny Lenehan joined the ranks with his huge juganaut bass sound. Lenehan heard that the band were looking for a bass player and quickly offered his services after hearing the band's debut single. The band have expanded their sound further by bullying Stuart's partner, band photographer and webmaster, Shelley Dougan, to play keyboards live.In 2007 the band released a single E.P "Miles Away" on the ultra cool hip indie label Enraptured Records. The critically acclaimed single has sold out and received airplay all over the world such as Germany, Australia, America and even Argentina. On the strength of this they secured a management deal with London based label Pure Delinquent run by Jack Trevillion and Julie Pratt. The dynamic duo of Jack and Jules have been in the music industry for a number of years and have worked with some of the biggest names in the music business such as David Bowie, Spiritualized and even Stevie Wonder! Jack also runs Enraptured Records who are due to release the band's second double A side 7" single "St John's Point" and "To The Lighthouse" to be followed by the band's debut album which they are currently mixing. Legendary producers Pat Collier (Primal Scream, Jesus & Mary Chain, The Wondersfuff) and the maverick Rich Haynes (Radiohead and Supergrass) have both produced tracks on the album. The band are currently playing locally in venues such as Classic Grand, The Barfly, Nice & Sleazy's, 13th Note, Bannerman's (Edinburgh). Kemsley and co have been absent from giging due to recording commitments for the album however, with the album almost complete they are planning a few local warm up gigs to prepare for a small UK tour in the New Year to promote the single and album. If you would like to book The Storm Society for a gig please drop us a message on here with the details and we will get back to you.
