The Crisis we face!
Two out of every 3 churches face a growing crisis within in its walls. The target is our youth. The crisis is Secular Hip-Hop. Secular Hip-Hop and its life style have effected Christian youth of all backgrounds. It leaves them with false hope while destroying moral character.
Many Pastors are deeply disturbed by much of the music produced by hip-hop artists and are exasperated by their own children's attraction to it. Edwin Rucker, pastor of The City of Refuge Church of Virginia, was familiar with hip-hop but not concerned about it until he found several hip hop CDs under his son's bed. Rucker, a no-nonsense dad, worried about the negative effects secular hip hop might have on his son. "What we find is that our kids are basically living in two cultures," he says. "The one culture is the church, and they do that to appease us as parents, but when they are with their friends, their demeanor is totally different. They can take one hat off and put on another. Churches, Ministries and the Clergy have overlooked the very real problem due to lack of knowledge about this music and the lifestyle that it presents. There are record number of our youth falling prey to this music and its influence.Last year, ABC's Nightline broadcast a three-part series on the pervasiveness of hip-hop culture. Most youth today, both Christian and non-Christian, are regularly exposed to hip-hop's influence. Mainstream corporations have recognized its value to reach young consumers worldwide. Advertisers, TV shows, and movies targeting youth regularly exploit its sights and sounds to lucrative effect. We now have youth with no fear of God, no respect for authority, no respect for themselves and no sense of purpose or direction.
It is time they are influenced by the word of God! It is our responsibility to reach them! We HAVE to address this crisis. The future rests on our youth; NOW is the time to instruct our children in righteousness. It is up to parents and Christian Leaders to leave a deposit in the earth for future generations.
The Purpose of this workshop
