The Southern Californian-based singer/songwriter often described as found out more than he expected about his life when he started putting his ideas into songs. With the guitar as his third arm and a voice overpowering his body size, he realized that love for people is not his only reason for living. Ray opened up a new door into the world of Pop, Jazz, Soul and R&B with his words and melodies describing color, food, instruments and most importantly, LOVE.
Ray’s career started out at 17, playing guitar and singing in high school. It rapidly progressed as he found that songwriting and performing came as natural to him as breathing. Ray’s writing style is refreshingly unique, offering interesting perspectives on common things through metaphors and catch phrases. As a metaphorical songwriter (with songs like: Mediocre Poker, The Capo Song, Oreo, Tailor shop) he has showed people that “You are what you eat, see, play and do; you are the noun,†says Ray.
Ray believes that to be a performer you must also be the listener. Performing completely improvised sets, he believes that the song should be played in the spur of the moment so the audience gets a feel of what he feels at the time.
In addition to live performances, Ray’s music has had significant success on-air. In 2007, his song “Mediocre Poker†was featured on MTV’s series, Maui Fever. He has performed live on K-Beach Radio, a Cal State University Long Beach production. Ray has also appeared as a special guest on The Ultimate Guitar Show hosted by Marc Seal which aired on ITV-16 as well as COX, PBS, Adelphia, and Time Warner.
Ray has been playing such notable Southern California venues as The Roxy, B.B. King’s Blues Club, The Viper Room, The Coach House, The Rainbow Bar & Grill, The Renaissance, among others. By popular demand he also continues to play in more intimate settings at local restaurants, hotels, cafes and bars. Ray is well known throughout Orange County and L.A. and there is a strong buzz going around. As Ray brings the objects that surround him to the world of music, he endeavors to show love, compassion, adventure and fun to those in need.
