I am basically a computer geek. I love computers and computer gaming. My main gaming love is Eve Online.....it rocks, pure and simple ;-). I still have a lot to learn when it comes to computer, but I am slowly getting there. I did manage to build my own gaming desk top computer a couple of years ago and am proud to say that it did not blow up when I plugged it in ;-).
I have a 10 year old rat terrier named Cagney, who is a true terrier......stubborn as hell!! But, I love her anyway. I got her from a rescue organization and it is always nice to know that I helped give a good home to an animal that had been abused and abandoned. I love all animals, but especially dogs. You just have to love how their whole body wags when you come home from work ;-). Cagney is my first rat terrier, but I think I am hooked. I have always loved horses as well, and I have become hooked on Meerkats yoo. I thought they were cute before, but once I started watching Meerkat Manor on Animal Planet, I have fallen in love with them.
After spending 12 years as a police officer, I decided to dive into the feel good world of non profit. I worked at the Tennessee Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Abuse where I was the Victims of Crime Coordinator. Basically what that meant was I referred victims of crime to various support services so they could get the assistance they needed. I also provided technical support and guidance for different support service programs throughout the state.
I then went to the YWCA Domestic Violence Shelter. I facilitate support groups, do community education presentations and do street outreach to the homeless women community. Great job, love the women I am able to help, but relying on grants to ensure you have a job can be a bit stressful.
As I said, I am mainly a computer geek, but I love the outdoors too. White water rafting is a LOT of fun, but unfortunately I have not done it in quite a while. I am totally in love with the beach. I want to be like half the other retirees in the country and move to Florida when I retire ;-). Pensacola and Key West are my two favorite areas. You cannot beat the relaxed atmosphere and attitude of the keys, and their sunsets are absolutely spectacular!!! Plus, they have Margaritaville.......what more can you ask for. Pensacola has a great beach and is small enough so you can get around easily, but large enough so there is other entertainment besides just the beach......although if you have a beach and fresh seafood, why would you really need anything else?
When I am not sitting in front of my computer or walking/playing with the dog, you can often times find me watching some type of sports on TV. I love watching NFL and college football (GO VOLS!!!!), NASCAR (yeah, its the redneck coming out I guess), tennis and women's basketball. It was a great March this year as the Tennessee Lady Vols won their 8th national title!!! Could we see number 9 in 2009?
