Sabina has spent her entire life making music—from her earliest memories of playing songs by ear at the family piano to her later explorations and accomplishments in a wide variety of musical forms. These experiences, along with hungry ears and an expressive mind, have fed her passion for both classical and progressive genres, with a particular taste and talent for jazz.
By the time Sabina was a young adult, she was recognized as an accomplished vocalist, pianist, and clarinetist. She attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston where she earned a Bachelor’s of Music in Commercial Arranging. This is where her love of jazz truly began. She sang with local jazz bands and was a national vocal finalist for the Jazz Ambassador Orchestra, the US Army’s premier jazz ensemble. The music really got under her skin at Wally’s Jazz Café, a legendary stomping ground for young jazz musicians in Boston. There, she regularly appeared with fellow students and musicians, many of whom are at the forefront of today’s music scene. As she came to appreciate and understand the improvisational and harmonic elements of jazz, she was inspired to start writing her own songs.
She returned to her native Michigan in the mid-nineties and honed her skills working with area choirs, performers and churches. She discovered a passion for educating children and maintained a studio of piano, voice, and composition students for nearly a decade.
Sabina currently resides in Chicago where she leads a full musical life. A complete singer and true Gemini, she is skilled in and enjoys many musical styles. She is an in-demand church singer and classical soloist and a member of the Schola Cantorum of St. Peter the Apostle, an internationally regarded choir specializing in chant and early music styles. She is also active in the Chicago jazz scene, appearing at FitzGerald’s, Davenport’s Piano Bar and Andy’s Jazz Club, among other venues.
Now, Sabina has poured her life experiences and talent into her much-anticipated debut, “Let the Music Speak,†a CD of original jazz-inspired material written and performed by Sabina.
