About Me
Hirilorn was formed back in 1994, when Sînn (lead guitar), Hasjarl (rythm guitar) and Shaxul (vocals and bass) started to get tired of their previous attempts to play black metal with unworthy persons. The core of the band, the 3 forming members that is, soon started to work on own songs, but nothing of interest emerged before mid-1996. Then, the band began to rehearse heavily for their first official demo. Luckily, Yohann (drums), an old friend of the band, was recruited and enriched the songs with his very personal drumming skills. Velvet Music International (France) offered Hirilorn to appear on their 3 CD compilation "Encyclopedia Pestilentia", even though they had only heard a rehearsal as a fortaste for the first demo. Hirilorn of course accepted, and recorded during the first days of January 1997 4 songs ("Häxan (Omen of the Witches)", "Haunted castle of Rising Solitude" and 2 versions of "Where Lightning strikes Eternaly"). A shorter version and more brutal version of "Where Lightning..." appeared on "Encyclopedia Pestilentia" whereas the longer version of this song as well as the 2 other compositions composed the band's first demo: "A Hymn to the Ancient Souls" . Dreamlord of Austrian Golden Dawn was so kind to record 2 exclusive tracks as intro and outro for Hirilorn, both of these songs enriched the demo's mystic atmosphere. Up to now, almost 400 copies of this demo were sold, and the response has been overall positive. In the beginning of 1998, Hirilorn entered again the studio, and recorded their debut album , composed of 4 songs for a length of aproximately 55 minutes (the titles being: "Last ride on the Winds of Eternity", "The Legion that will Never Fall", "Through the Moonless Night", and "Praise the Supreme Ruler of your Soul"). Many problems occured (both studio and label-wise), but finally Hirilorn signed a 2 album deal together with Drakkar Productions, known for their work in the area of uncompromising Black Metal. To start this collaboration, a split pro-demo with French black betal band Merrimack, strictly limited to 300 copies, has been unleashed. From Hirilorn you will get to hear a track, lasting for 12 minutes, as a fortaste of the debut album (namely "The Legion That Will Never Fall"), as well as a raw rehearsal cover of Mayhem's classic "Pagan Fears." In the middle of October 1998, "Legends of Evil and Eternal Death", the debut album, is finally available and presents a blend of aggressive, yet technical and melodic black metal. Both the playing skills and the sound as well as of course the definitelyoriginal songwritting allow to see in Hirilorn a quality band that is here to stay, and to wave high the flag of black metal in these years of decline of the genre.
