About Me

ABOUT GEMMA:
Gemma has been writing, recording and performing her own songs from a very early age. She went to a theatre school where she trained in music and singing and currently plays guitar (self-taught) and keyboards when writing songs, but also plays the bodhran, bongos and other percussion instruments.
In the past she has tended to leave the live playing up to others, concentrating more on singing and performance, but over the past few years she has mainly been performing and recording in a solo capacity. Just her and her guitar.
Gemma has been part of a number of bands, performing around her local area in Oxfordshire. She has also performed solo and in her youth wrote songs for other bands and solo artists, which she still does from time to time.
From 2002 - 2006 Gemma was lead female vocalist with Derbyshire Band New Chapter, penning songs, co-ordinating and performing in events, etc. They released an EP called, "In The Beginning", which came out in 2006 and has been aired on many local radio stations.
Since leaving Gemma has been performing her own music at open mic nights, pubs, music cafes, folk clubs and festivals around the Derbyshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire areas, as well as supporting bigger local bands.
She also works with other talented musicians and songwriters on their works and albums, as well as taking part in a great deal of collaborations.
You have probably heard her voice without knowing her name!
She is hoping to release in her debut album "Trying on Hats" soon, but for those of you that can't wait...
Her EP "Coming Soon" will be available from 25th May 2008. Reserve your copy with her now!

GEMMA'S SONGS:
All of the songs above are pretty raw, but Gemma Wylde is currently working on her debut album "Trying on Hats"
The recordings on this page are the very first recordings ever made, but they will hopefully give an idea of the finished product.
Gemma writes all her own songs and performs live alongside a talented team of sessional musicians.
All songs on this site have full copyright of Gemma Wylde and were fully written and performed by Gemma Wylde.

“Gemma has a smile that takes you by surprise. A flash of teeth, a sparkle in her eyes and all of a sudden you can’t help smiling back. Her voice is the same. Just when you sit with your toes dangling at the edge of a song a wave crashes over you and soaks you to the skin. Whether it’s “Not Ready To Make Nice” by the Dixie Chicks or one of her own compositions such as “Onion to the Soul”, Gemma delivers an impressive vocal performance.” Rob Henry – The Real Music Review

CREDITS AND THANKS:
A big thank you to Joni Mitchell - I have used one of her exceptional paintings for the sleeve picture displayed on my song Here With Me, which is listed above.
Also, there is a traditional a'cappella song on here that I have called "Lie Still My Dear And Sleep" - I don't know who wrote this or when, but my Nana used to sing it to me when I was little. If anyone can remember the details of this song, or the whole tune, please GET IN TOUCH! I'd Love to know.

My Interests

Band Members: At the moment it is just Gemma, her guitar and her fabulous session musicians - bless them all!
Gemma knows many musicians in and around Derby and is fortunate enough to draw upon them when necessary. In that way she also pays them back by singing on and/or backing their works.
Gemma's husband, Matt, is also a singer/songwriter and accomplished at many instruments. He plays guitar, bass, drums, bongos and recently keyboards. They often work closely together on solo and joint projects and have performed live together on many occasions.
