About Me

I'm a person who loves to study: I graduated from the German Department of the University of Szczecin (M.A., specialty: linguistics) and I have just completed my studies at the English Department (B.A., specialty: British culture - imposed on me against my will). I decided to continue my studies up to M.A in the English Department and I was also accepted for doctorate studies (German Department again). When I was in primary school I dreamed of becoming a writer or a singer. Well, my dream came true... to some extent - I have just finished and "defended" my second thesis and, if I'm lucky, I'll have a chance to write a third, and a fourth... (Hmmm). As for singing - probably good voice alone is not enough. I have recently added some of my attempts to sing someone else's songs (I can't play any instrument)to my profile - so enjoy or just turn the sound off...
The topic of my M.A. thesis: Gelegenheitsbildungen im Roman "A Clockwork Orange" und in seinen deutschen und polnischen Ãœbersetzungen [Occasional neologisms in the novel "A Clockwork Orange" and in its German and Polish translations]. 2007
B.A thesis: Socialist ideas in the lyrics of the Welsh band Manic Street Preachers. 2008.(Unfortunately, the reviewer did not get a heart attack on reading the title ;))
In my PhD thesis I'm going to examine difficulties and possiblilities of translating German Idiolects.
In my M.A. thesis (English this time) I'm going to analyse some lyrics by Manic Street Preachers using toools of cognitive linguistics
If you're interested in reading any of the above-mentioned works - don't hesitate to contact me !

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Anthony Burgess (no chances for this to happen - he's no longer among the living), Irvine Welsh (hmmm), Patrick Jones (I'm starting to suspect it's one of those "protect-me-from-what-I want" wishes), intelligent people, interesting music bands (e.g. Manic Street Preachers)- also yet unknown

1. DON'T even think of asking me for the add if:
-you oppose the idea of tolerance
-you think that your religion/being atheist entitles you to feel superior to others
-you think you're tolerant but just hate those negros/muslims/feminists/socialists etc.

2. DO think of asking me for the add if:
-you like reading various books
-you like writing (literary/scientific etc.) texts
-you consider yourself an intelligent and open-minded person and just want to chat
-(without prejudice to point 1.) you're interested in publishing of any of my works (theses or texts from my blog)

My Blog

My academic project (seems) thwarted

As you probably remember (or not :)), I'm currently doing some research on some Manic Street Preachers lyrics for my M.A. thesis (English Philology; I don't want to go into details here) and on tra...

Gaaaaah - a conference!

Well, well, well, I might be able to say something (potentially interesting) about a play by Patrick Jones, a Welsh poet/playwright, at a conference organised by my university after all. But why do I ...

Something to think about

It seems to me that manifesting one's atheism or at least one's being not too religious has recently become a new 'fashion'. Well, taking into consideration statements of some members of religious org...

"mind like a sewer" ?!! - how unchristian.

Why is it that when I happen to actually read some poetry/dramas of a contemporary author I hear from someone that he is a controversial one (or worse)? This was the case with Patrick Jones who, accor...

Patrick Jones: brainwork continues

I have always looked at the traditional approaches to text analysis (to put it not at all mildly: author-as-a-sacred-cow approaches) with a rather disapproving eye. That is why in my comparative analy...

I have recently got hold of a book Fuse containing selected works by Patrick Jones. I ordered the book and waited for it for a month, so when I finally held it in my hand I thought to myself: "This be...
