5lowershop began in 1997 as a free music distribution. Flyers were randomly left at raves and parties in the San Francisco bay area with cryptic messages and details of an infoline number which was the primary method of requesting music. Tapes of DJ mixes and also live sets were duly dispatched to anyone who left their mailing details and who expressed interest.
