Welcome to my Marc Jordan Tribute Page, and if there's one singer/songwriter who deserves a HUGE Tribute, it's certainly Marc!
For almost 30 years, he's been contributing a rich and diverse texture to West Coast style music.
Although born in New York, Marc grew up in Toronto in a home that abounded with music. His father, classically-trained Charles Jordan, a singer and radio personality, exposed Marc to everything from Woody Guthrie to Grieg, and to all of the jazz greats as well.
Although he studied filmmaking at Brock University, the seeds of music planted in him from early childhood compelled him to turn to music, and by 1974, Marc released his first singles with the Canadian division of CBS Records (It's a Fine Line, New York Kids, Original Sin).
They were not very successful themselves, but they caught the ear of the legendary producer of Steely Dan, Gary Katz.
Marc's association with Katz led to a record deal with Warner Bros. and in 1978, the debut album "Mannequin" was released. The album spawned the Canadian hit songs "Marina del Rey" and "Survival" and showcased the talents of such greats as Steve Lukather, Larry Carlton, Donald Fagen and Jeff Porcaro. His 1980 sophomore release "Blue Desert" features the production of the great Jay Graydon and a cast of first class studio musicians including Michael Omartian, Ray Parker Jr., Bobby Kimball and Bill Champlin among others. This recording is a classic of the "West Coast Sound".
In 1983, Jordan released “A Hole in the Wall†that was once again jammed-packed with solid West Coast tunes, and features the beautiful “It’s Only Love†written by Marc and fellow Canadian and Westcoast hero David Foster.
The record also showcases enough fantastic LA session players to makes one’s head spin. Marc was then signed to RCA for two records. Paul Devilliers, fresh off his success with Mr. Mister, produced the first “Talking Through Pictures†and Kim Bullard the second entitled “Cow“, an acronym for Conserve Our World.
The 1990’s marked a transition period for Marc, and in 1993, Jordan signed with Bobby Caldwell’s Sin-Drome Label and released the Very Jazzy “Reckless Valentineâ€, which was followed by “Cool Jam Black Earth,†on Canada’s Café Records, “This Is How Men Cry†on EMI/Blue Note, and “Make Believe Ballroom†on EMI Canada-- all of which were much more jazz-oriented.
Despite his more recent foray into Jazz, Marc has focused mainly on pop throughout his career, writing for a spectrum of artists including Joe Cocker, Chicago, Kenny Loggins, Natalie Cole and Manhattan Transfer.
In 1992, he gave Rod Stewart a worldwide #1 hit with "Rhythm Of My Heart", and in 1999, Cher recorded a second Marc Jordan composition ("Taxi Taxi") for her blockbuster album "Believe", which sold over 10 million copies.
Many of Marc’s older recordings have been re-released, along with some live concert albums.
Jordan is married to fellow singer-songwriter Amy Sky. They live in Toronto and cottage in the Muskokas with their two children. Jordan and Sky are both national UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors for Canada.
Enough cannot be said about this tremendous talent.
I certainly hope you enjoy this Tribute page as much as I have creating it.
