About Me

It's a shame that I lost my enormous art studio on Telegraph Ave. in Oakland, because it really was filled to the rafters with expressions about who I am, and how I like to live. Lawyers suck. Anyway, I am fascinated by our existance here on this planet, good and bad. Ancient lost cultures; animals- living and extinct; art, music, history, science, fantasy, pagan and occult philosophy and more. I've been called a 'renaissance man' by a friend, because I am truly interested in just about everything. The term 'renaissance man' might sound rather cheezy to some, but I suppose it does apply to me. This is definately a period of radical, yet often subtle change in human history, and I don't want to miss anything. (except reality tv) Imagine a man hunched over a microscope by candle light, in a large, old mansion; the room is filled with strange artifacts, books, musical instraments, tools, astronomical devices, many candles burning, maps, sculptures, and a two-headed turtle in a cage; HUH? Well, you get the idea. That's how my studio was, and that's how my brain works. (when it DOES work.) One good thing about eccentric people: It doesn't matter if YOU aren't eccentric, they will still find you fascinating. Let's face it- this planet is crawling with strange and interesting specimens, but don't worry- I won't put you under my microscope and treat you like an amoeba. I want love, and I want to give it, in abundance; just like everybody else does.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

well... someone to have fascinating conversation with, go out into nature with, cook for/with, shoot pool with, eat sushi with, go out to see movies and live music, someone to worship the Earth, sea and sky with, and develop a strong friendship with- heading towards something powerful and lasting. A woman who would eventually allow me to ravage her while she has her hair in curlers, a fuzzy bathrobe on, a yucky green facial mask, cotton balls between her freshly painted toenails, and is menstruating. Ah, romance! *sigh*

Music:

I listen to: some classical; Rimski Korsakov, Wagner, Beethovan, Vivaldi; old classic folk rock like Sandy Denny / Fairport Convention, Melanie, some classic rock; Stones, Beatles, David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, Floyd, Zeppelin, CSNY etc. KFJC 89.7 fm, some 80's... Cure, Siouxsie, This Mortal Coil, Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, Nina Hagen, Les Rita Mitsouko (Les Rita who?) etc... I also enjoy music that appeals to my dark side, like Diamanda Galas, SPK, Coil... I will not listen to rap, unless it is performed by albino midgets in drag, with little pointy party hats. (hey, I'd pay to see that) I also enjoy experimental 'noise' music sometimes; it has a sort of 'other wordly' quality if done well. I usually can be found hugging my radio Thursday nights at midnight, tuned to KPFA for 'Over The Edge', which is an amazing sort of 'audio collage' mish-mash of social and arts satire, performed live by Negativland. One has the oportunity to call in and contribute sound. It's actually a stroke of artistic genius on many occasions, and I have been involved since 1986.

Movies:

I have a huge film archive of my own; I am finally (soon) starting an online business to sell DVDs of all the ultra rare and impossible-to-find goodies I have in my collection. YAY!!! Have you ever wondered why some actors get knighted by the queen, but film directors don't? UPDATE: Ridley Scott was just recently knighted! (Yeah, I know- big deal) but SIR Ridley Scott has a definite ring to it.... Now if there's any justice, he will be stripped of his knighthood to pay for the awful dialogue in 'Gladiator'. My favorite films: Walkabout, (Nicholas Roag) Excalibur (John Boorman), Alien (Scott), The Wickerman- with Christopher Lee; no other version exists... Lord of the Rings (I read the books as a kid- can't help it...) Close Encounters of the Third Kind / Jaws (Stephon Von Schpielberger), THX1138 / Star Wars (before George Lucas lost his mind), Prospero's Books, Caligula, Roman Polanski's Macbeth, 2001: A Space Odyssey, V For Vendetta, MANY old Hammer horror films; Christopher Lee has officially attained devine status. Several Italian horrors, and believe it or not Argentina made lots of horror films in the 60's/70's- good stuff. TONS of Japanese horror and sci-fi weirdies; old B&W horror films from Japan are wonderful! ... many off-beat foreign films like Amelie, Diva, Betty Blue etc, and let us not forget- the immortal Russ Meyer! Yes, I have a near-complete collection of Russ... Some older Steve Martin comedies like The Jerk, Man With Two Brains, The Lonely Guy; I also have a soft, furry place in my heart for old cheezy BIGFOOT mock-umentaries from the Early 70's, that are long out-of-print. (There were a lot more of them produced than you might realise.)The list spirals down into deep obscurity from there... Long live Bob Wilkins!

Television:

Most of what I used to watch on TV I now have on DVD or taped; Space: 1999, Land Of The Lost, 'In Search Of' with Leonard Nimoy, Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, Star Trek, Fawlty Towers, The Prisoner, and let's not forget- Lancalot Link: Secret Chimp! ... The only thing I don't have from my childhood that I am dying to find, is the entire series 'The UnderSea World of Jacques Cousteau' from the early 70's. Hey, it was Jacques Cousteau on his ship Calypso, traveling to all corners of the planet- narrated by Rod Sirling, in the early seventies; what's NOT to love? What's that? You fought in Vietnam, you say? Well, while YOU were off lolligaggin' in NAM, getting your butt SHOT at, I was sitting on MY ASS watching LOST IN SPACE, eating bowl after bowl of CAP'N CRUNCH CERIAL!!! Do you know what that can DO to a eight-year-old??? So DO NOT give me that VIETNAM crap!!! ... anyway, I like the history channel, science channel, Iron Chef, (Japanese version ONLY) documentaries in general, sometimes TCM has rare old movies. Sounds like I'm a TV junky? Not at all. But being raised with several of the older shows and movies listed above DID have a positive impact on my development, from ethical and artistic viewpoints.

Books:

some science material; astronomy, paleontology, anthropology, history, zoology, sometimes unexplained mysteries, occult lore and philosophy, and some older fiction / fantasy novels. I also read the back of my Cap'n Crunch box, over and over again...

Heroes:

Jacques Cousteau. Jane Goodall. Diane Fossy. the Leakeys. Spencer Wells. Don Johansen. Jacob Bronowski. Rod Serling. Carl Sagan. Charles Darwin. Joseph Campbell. Norman Lindsay. Inoshiro Honda. Roger Corman. William Shakespeare. Vincent Price. Russ Meyer. Don Joyce. Rosaleen Norton (I suggest you google her...) David Bowie. Sandy Denny. Mom.
