BIO/ KELTIEG – Traditional celtic music in SlovakiaKELTIEG – This slovak band playing european traditional folk and folkloric music was created in 1998 as an international association of musicians from Great Britain, France, Britanny and Slovakia. Five and even more musicians, in an open musical association, are playing together as the first band in Slovakia dedicated to this kind of music, inspired from celtic countries‘ traditions and also, of course, from Slovakian traditional music. Their repertoire is including not only their own compositions but also tunes and songs from Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, Wales, Isle Of Man, Brittany, Galicia, Asturia, and arrangements of slovak traditional songs or own composition.KELTIEG is playing acoustic instruments : guitars, violins, highland bagpipes, bombarde, tin whistle, low whistle and flute, bodhrans, tamboril, pandeiro, pandeireta and many other percussions.KELTIEG recorded in 1999 its first CD, „Búrka“, and in 2002 its second CD „Yec´hed Mat!“. In the same year the band distributed a remasterized version of „Búrka“. The members of KELTIEG cooperated with the music composer VladimÃr Godár for the original soundtrack of Martin Å ulÃk’s movie „Krajinka“. They appeared many times on televisions and their tunes are broadcasted by several radios.KELTIEG together with its civil association, organises every year the celebrations of main celtic feasts (Imbolc, Beltine, Lughnasadh, Samhain), which are multicultural festivals reminding the celtic cultural heritage of Slovakia. The band also backs up non profit organisations with the participations to some charitative events.KELTIEG at the moment appeared in Slovakia, Czech Republic, Austria, Poland, in Galicia (Spain) in festivals as first part of programs featuring LUAR NA LUBRE (Galicia), Basque ALAITZ eta MAIDER as well as CAPERCAILLIE (Scotland), in Britanny (France), in Asturias (Spain) as first part of programs featuring HEVIA (AST), FLOOK GB+IR), HENDINGARNA (SWE), JOHN McSHEERRY (IR) or CORQUIEU (AST) and finally in Slovakia with SALSA CELTICA (Scotland). In August 2002 KELTIEG played 10 concerts in the frame of prestigious Festival Interceltique de Lorient in Britanny, as the first slovak band in an 34-year long history. After members changing at september 2003 the band present more progresive variation of this kind of music. The intention of the band is to develop the common cultural heritage of Europe, thanks to a wide selection of celtic music from original celtic countries and make more popular slovak traditional music including old pipe tunes played with old or modern arrangements.Discography :Yec´hed Mat!
