Taylor Camp - Kauai, Hawaii

Well over two decades since the time of Taylor Camp, and now it is only a memory shared by many. There are urban legends & Unforgotten truths that will be passed down through generations to come. Taylor Camp was a village of tree houses, nude hippies, long hairs, surfers, weary travelers, children, laughter, dreams, & culture. Everyone from the self employed, on food stamps or just needing a break from the mainstream life of the 1960’s. Everyone enjoyed pot, beer, wine, and Kauai's abundance gifts from the earth. This was a time of bliss. Taylor Camp was located next to a slow flowing stream on the golden sand beach of Haena. The camp was yards from the ocean nestled in the canopy of the native Hawaiian foliage and fine trees. It laid next to Ke’e Beach (end of the road) this was the north shore on the Island of Kauai, Hawaii. The late 60’s till 1978 Taylor camp was a way of life only known by some. I was all to young to know the amazing life we lived.There were only a hand full of cops on the whole island and unless it was something really horrendous, they weren’t going to go out and arrest anyone at Taylor Camp for smoking pot or not wearing clothes, plus the jail was 37 miles away. Being so far away from the city our lives were virtually private. Our own self efficient/self made paradise.
