Andy Olson and The Spiritual Jail

About Me

(WELL OBVIOUSLY THE SONGS above sound like rough late night simple guitar & vocal demo's...because that's exactly what they are...for now...we will produce them full as we go along...but people have been asking "Man, you still writing? When you gonna play again? Anything new? What happened to you?"

IT'S TRUE, WE AIM to satisfy the masses...(Hope you like 'em Ma.)

CURRENTLY IN THE STUDIO throwing it all against the wall and we will see what sticks.

THERE ARE A FEW upcoming small shows so come on out and see why I've been hiding all this time.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: You're Lookin' At It
Band Members: The Spiritual Jail is a painting. Those wielding brushes are Andy Olson, Tony Cole, and Duane West
Influences: WHEN I WAS 18 years old and in my second year of an uneventful and uncompleted college attempt...I happened to be crashin on the couch which belonged to two guys that were six years my senior, who were still in school and big fans of The Grateful Dead, go figure...anyway, one the those career students had Dylan's 'Blood On the Tracks'...I had never heard music like that...the next time I listened to it...I caught onto the words...and that was that...

DYLAN WITH A HEAVY load of Van Morrison and John Prine. They influenced...a couple of other cats named Peter Tucci and Tim Gormley who were different kinds of writers, they influenced, and so did Don Potter.

AS FAR AS MUSIC goes...I dig it all...from Sinatra to Artie Shaw... Merle Haggard...to Chopin...that tragic romantic hero from the Counting Crows he's great...Loretta Lynn... individuals who are authentic to their genre and true in voice...Nancy Griffith...John Lee Hooker...Townes VanZandt... Queen Latifah...Lucinda Williams...Neil Young...John Hiatt, for sure can't forget about him...Mavis Staples, wow, amazing vocalist...I can find something about everybody that I am going to walk away with...could take up a lot of space here...best show I ever saw was Kristofferson alone with his guitar.

MOSTLY, I LIKE MY own stuff...that's why I write...I write because I have too...

I'M A BIG FAN of HEMINGWAY (though I'm not the depressed and don't care much for guns.) TOLSTOY, (though I'm too vain to grow a beard like his.) ANNIE DILLIARD, (though I usually don't like hauling around my dictionary.) and EUGENE H. PETERSON (whose translation of the Bible the Lord used to help me truly find the meaning of Grace)...these then are favorites, as are many many more...with a large splattering of poetry...Most all books...

I ESPECIALLY ENJOY COLORING books...
