Chuck Popcorn Louden

About Me

It can be easily said that Chuck "Popcorn" Louden is in demand as one of the best drummers in the music business today. He has dazzled crowds around the world with his drum technique and skillful chops since he was nine years old. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, young Chuck Louden actually picked up a guitar at age five, but started playing drums at the age of six in his parent's basement. Both of his parents were accomplished musicians and there was always Gospel playing in their home. Encouragement was given to Chuck when he played in the Church as a young boy, by the mother of John Edwards who was in The Spinners. She would give him dollars to play. When he was only nine years old, he received his first real drum kit and his dad hired him to do his first gig with his gospel band "The GoldenAires". Two weeks later he was thrown into the fire and has been going ever since. It was then that Chuck started his life on the road as a drummer crisscrossing the country and even recorded on a few 45's for them by the time he was 11. It was also about this time that he got his nickname. While playing his kit he couldnt reach the cymbals and would reach up high to hit them, his band guys would say that he was poppin' up like popcorn, and the name stuck.

Popcorn laid tracks on an album by the age of 15 and went overseas for the first time at the age of 16 with the O'Neal Twins. Through all of the gigs, shows and recording sessions Popcorn still had time to excel in high school and earned scholarships in football and baseball. In his early 20's, Popcorn had moved to Tyler, Texas, and continued playing baseball on a scholarship at Texas College picking up gigs on the weekend, but he hurt his knee at 23 and that ended his baseball career. This injury changed and altered his direction in life because he started pursuing music full time and has never looked back. The list of performers who Popcorn has played and shared the stage with is too many to mention, but there are many prominent entertainers to make note of such as James Cotton, Bo Diddley, Dr. John, Chuck Berry, Pinetop Perkins, Little Milton, Taj Mahal, James Brown, Johnnie Taylor, Sam and Dave, Coco Montoya, Otis Taylor, Shemekia Copeland, Kenny Neal, WC Clark, Magic Slim, The Coasters, Drifters, Platters, The Soul Stirrers, Joe Louis Walker, Smokin' Joe Kubek, Andrew "Jr. Boy" Jonew, Rico McFarland, Bernard Allison, Howard Tate, Tommy Shannon, Junior Wells, Tommy Castro, Bobby Patterson, Randy McAllister, Little Charlie and the Nightcats, Martha Reeves, Tutu Jones, and Larry Garner to name a few.His career has put him on stage with many high profile performers and top notch entertainers. Things have happened fast, highlights include over seven years touring the world with Lucky Peterson, backing up and touring with the legendary Buddy Miles, and currently touring with Alligator recording artists and guitar man Michael Burks where he plays up to 250 shows a year and will be recording with him on his next release.Popcorn has reached levels that some musicians may never know and is striving for higher ground. Now residing in Dallas, Texas his main inspiration is his three year old daughter who means the world to him and is the glue to his focus and passion.I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4Generate your own contact table!
