About Me

I first began dancing at the age of nine and my first public performance in London was with the Royal Ballet Company at Covent Garden when I was twelve yrs old. I was trained by the Royal Ballet and studied Spanish classical dance, Hungarian dance, choreography, music theory, piano and classical guitar as well as classical ballet.Later I went to university and obtained two Life science degrees, one a doctorate in Physiology. I published several research papers and lectured at Medical School in South Africa. Then I discovered Flamenco, which changed my life and led me back to the world of Dance full time. Since gaining teaching qualifications in dance (AISTD, Cert.Dance Ed.)I have become a free lance dance teacher and lecturer aswell as performer. I dance with some fine Flamenco musicians in and around the South West region of England and have appeared with them at the Ashton Court Festival, Bristol Harbourside Festival, Frome Arts Festival, The Watershed in Bristol, The Stroud Performing Arts Centre, and many restaurants and clubs in Bristol, Cardiff, Birmingham, Bath and Cheltenham including, Luna, La Tasca and Revolution amongst others. I dance regularly at El Puerto Spanish Tapas Bar and Restaurant in Bristol on Sunday evenings. From time to time I receive invitations to run workshops at schools, colleges and arts centres. I teach Flamenco in Bristol, Stroud and at Bath University and Ballet at Bath University, the Dance Academy South West and Filton college. I also teach anatomy and physiology on dance degree programmes and dance teacher training courses. To continue my professional development I attend workshops and courses in London and Spain. My Interests

I'd like to meet:

I wish I could have met my Spanish and Portuguese relatives, one of whom, danced the Argentinian Tango at competition level, was a pianist and spoke four languages.... sadly, he died before I was able to meet him. Another was a sailor, who arrived in Liverpool a few generations ago and was only ever referred to as 'Uncle' Juan.....
