Band Members: SurrealThe Illinois based group was started in River Grove, IL on the out skirts of Chicago. The group was not planned but rather it emerged from random singing sessions held in the cafeteria of Triton College. The four members Joe Freelon (21), Tim Jackson (20), Chris Caldwell (19), and Elijah Jamal (18) are all Chicago natives.
When it comes to a certain style of music Surreal would rather not classify themselves to a specific round due to the versatility of the group. They..re music is filled with old school harmonies with a new school twist. Certain artist that have been an inspiration of their unique sound are Boys II Men, Jagged Edge, Take Six, Temptations, Clark Sisters, Stevie Wonder various other artist. They..re goal is to bring back a musical aspect that has been lacking in recent years as well as creating a sound that is all their own and undirected to a certain audience or age group.
Joe Freelon IIIJoe Freelon III (J. Free) was born November 14, 1985 to Joe Freelon Jr. and Ester Lynn Wright is the middle of child of three children. J. Tim attended Walther Lutheran high school where he was a member of the Acapella choir (3yrs President for 2yrs). He also lettered in baseball (3yrs) and football (2yrs). Tim Jackson as he is known by his friends is single and feels that his motivation comes from God, his family, and his struggles in life and love. The artists that have inspired him are Marvin Gaye, Quincy Jones, Ray Charles, and Brian McKnight. Oddly enough Tim being the smallest in stature is the big brother of the group.Elijah JamalElijah Jamal was born July 31, 1989 to Mr. and Mrs. Dr. Aaron and Dr. Margaret Jamal. Elijah (EJ) moved around a lot as a child born in Chicago and moved to Colorado when he was 5 then back home to Windy City at the age of 12 and resided on the west side of Chicago. EJ was home school from the third grade to high school where he attended Alpha Omega School of the arts. As a child EJ..s loves of music was obvious as he was a master at the art of the air guitar but at the age of 6 transitioned to the piano, which was inspired by the successful musicianship of his father. Ej..s father isn..t the only one of Ej..s family members who are talented, his mother and father were both accomplished jazz vocalist, and aunt Abbie Lincoln is a very accomplished jazz vocalist and has stared in a few motion pictures.
