About Me
... I grew up on film sets following my mom, who is a Hairstylist. Since I was a kid I always knew I wanted to direct… once, when I was 10 yrs old, on the set of “The Godfather 3â€, Coppola asked me if I wanted to be an actor and I answered “ No, I wanna do your jobâ€. My name is Francesco Bovinò, I studied literature with a minor in film at the University of Rome la Sapienza, but I wasn’t able to complete my studies due to economic problems. I then found a full time job as an assistant director and worked on several TV series. With short ends accumulated on the shows I worked on, I was able to shoot this short seven years ago, with my 16mm Arriflex BL, without any type of funding. I wrote, directed, cinematographer, operated, lit and needless to say was my own grip and electric…The majority of the shots are one take, to be able to complete the project with the little film I had. In reality the short is slightly longer than 10 minutes, but I cut it to fit the 5min format requested on the application for the show. P-Est’s focus is on aesthetic exercises, a sort of training on grammatical filmmaking and does not base itself on a strict storyline but the storyline, if you will, is at the service of the images I wanted to capture and the subsequent emotions the convey. I shot another short in 35mm, the dialogues are in Italian based on a novel by Chuck Palahniuk, one of my favorite authors.
I now work as a director/operator for a small production company. Currently I’m filming documentaries on deep sea fishing, in a more cinematographic style.
bovino . Another of my passions is writing, I have written two feature scripts and one TV series that combines a variety show with fiction, but I have yet to find a producer, for now. Among my other experiences, I have worked in the field of political journalism.
