About Me

.. ..This is just a brief history about ME and how I got involved in the wonderful world of music and entertainment.I was lucky enough to work in Dowling’s of Prosperous, Co. Kildare from the age of 15 to 18 while still in school in Saint Farnan’s in Prosperous, and was exposed to all kinds of music. There was everything from folk to rock. It was some venue. I saw the bands coming early to set up the gear, the lights and do their sound checks. I even got talking to the likes of Joe Dolan, Brendan Grace, Red Hurley, Brush Shields, the list goes on. It was all so magical to me and for the first time I knew this was the road in life that I would take. The artist that impressed me the most and prompted me to buy my first guitar for the grand total of £35.00 at the time, was "Christy". I picked up that guitar when I was 15 and haven't put it down since. Thank you Christy for your inspiration. I have seen and met some wonderful people in my life and it wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t have the gift of music. In 1989 I moved to Nottingham in England and quickly got thrown into all the goings on in the Irish Community there. I started gigging solo and played (served my ‘Apprenticeship’) in Nottingham, Derby, Newark, Leicester, Rugby, Burton on Trent and Birmingham. If there was a Wedding, Christening, Irish event or just a get together I was there. I’d be belting out the 3 waltzes, the 3 quicksteps, the 3 foxtrots. I played support to The Bards, Sean Wilson, Mary Duff, Brendan Shine, Jimmy Crowley Curtis Mc Gee, Paddy Reilly and a few more. I even played with Patsy Watchorn and his band one night. What a buzz. In the 11 years that I spent there I played in 3 different Duo's as well as doing mainly solo work:I released "The Sky Over Ireland" as a single in Dec 2007. Still waiting to sell the first million :) I do hope you enjoy listening to my songs as much as I enjoyed writing them. They are available on download from my website. www.mickdunne.ie (theres a more detailed bio on my website)Thanks for stopping by, Please tell your friends Slainte. Mick :)

Influences: Christy Moore, Luka Bloom, Josh Ritter, Bob Dylan, Steve Earle and a few more. A couple of years ago I met Mundy and Declan O'Rourke and it has to be said "Gifted". I have lots of talented singer/songwriter friends who I am highly influenced by. For example check out "My Friends" Paul O'Brien, Eamon O Maonaigh, John O Dwyer, Richie Muir and Patrick Timoney on this page. You cant beat a beautiful song, a nice melody and nice lyrics and a good beat behind it. Janey Mack what would we do without music????
Sounds Like: Well........ I have been told I sound like Christy Moore (to me the best compliment ever!!!). I'm not sure about that. I think it's cause we are from the same area and I love singing his songs. I can't hit the LOW notes like Christy though. I have been told recently I sound like Gordon Lightfoot. (If you could read my mind Love, what a tale my thoughts would tell you) Mmmmmmm...... Maybe a wee bit! That makes me happy...... Very Happy. Ha Ha! But I think I'd really like to be the first me. Aaaaaaahhhhhhh.........
Record Label: I'm yours if you want me!!!! :)
