Jamar "Ratigan" Kelly was born on the 1st of December 1986 to mother Joan Page and Father Everton Kelly. He grew up in the rough community of Braeton Phase Two also known as Brixton. While attending Camperdown High school he discovered that he possessed a talent for music.
"From I was in high school I was known as a trouble maker because of the continuous disturbance of classes while beating on the desk in classrooms". He started to perform at school concerts which gained him a reputation among his schoolmates.
After leaving school he decided to do music professionally. He started writing to building a catalogue of songs but soon found himself wanting original music for his songs so after being introduced to music production software. He started to make his own riddims and began to record himself.
“I started to record my own demos and did a mixtape in order to let people hear what I could do". It was at this time that Mad Cobra, a dancehall legend with the international hit ‘Gal Flex’ who hailed from the same community, started to notice his musical abilities and decided that he would help to expose Ratigan’s talent.
Mad Cobra introduced him to Rohan "Snowcone" Fuller in 2003 which saw him making his first professional recording on the popular ‘Applause Riddim’. The song didn't give him the attention he wanted but he took what he learned from the experience and continued to further develop his skills as both an artist and producer.
He soon moved on to record and produce songs for a long impressive list of reggae heavyweights including Mad Cobra, Gyptian, Spice, L.U.S.T, Terry Linen, Anthony B, Bascom X and many more. 2008 saw him producing the lions share of Mad Cobra's new studio effort. It was also in 2008 that he decided to return to the Mic which lead to the self produced "Horny She Horny" and the Hard hitting "Let Them Grow" which tackles the rise in crimes against children in Jamaica .
After years of building a name within the industry, the streets are now buzzing about the hottest new artist out of Portmore. With his ability to deliver great songs, whether he is doing roots rock Reggae or Dance Hall its only going to get better for this Artist/Producer in 2009.
