What is Shark’s fin soup?
Shark fin soup is a Chinese delicacy commonly served as part of a Chinese feast, usually at special occasions such as weddings and banquets as a symbol of wealth and prestige.
The high price of the soup means that is often used as a way to impress guests or at celebrations.
The soup itself is said to be tasteless and is prized for its texture rather than flavor. In other words, shark's fin simply sucks!
How do they get the fins? Shark finning.
The sad reality is that sharks are often just caught for their fins.
They are usually alive when their fins are being cut off. Once the hunters are done with the fins, the sharks are simply tossed back into the sea, without their fins and ability to swim.
They are then just left to drown and bleed to death.
Why should I care?
One of the oldest creatures on Earth, sharks have dominated the oceans for over 400 million years.
However, due to increased shark catches, their very survival are now at bigger risks than ever before.
The increasing demand for luxurious sharks fin soup in restaurants have been the main reason behind the escalating numbers of shark killings.
Unless we act, their days may be numbered. Help save the sharks and protect the ocean.
How can I help?
Help spread the word, Say No to shark's fin!
When the buying stops, the killing can too.
