Beginning in Los Angeles, spending time in Portland Oregon, following cheap rent to Boston, to finding love in Eastern Washington, 20-something Aaron Schroeder has called Kennewick his home for the past couple years. It is there he released his debut record Southern Heart In Western Skin and his more recent release Black & Gold. Both albums are soaked in traditional instrumentation, such as lap-steel guitars, cellos, accordions, violins, banjos but also feature some interesting twists as well like musical saws, clarinet, mandolins, tubas, bells.
"I listen to a lot of classic artists like Bob Dylan, Leadbelly, Billy Bragg, but I also enjoy modern bands like Belle & Sebastian, The Mountain Goats and Silver Jews." Not only is Aaron a true fan of music but he is also an avid reader, citing authors such as Fydor Dostoevsky, Henry Miller, Haruki Murakami, Bernard Malamud as influences. "Often time my lyrics are adaptations of things I've read, including various Yiddish, Arabic, and American folk tales."
His second disc Black & Gold, features guest spots from Justin Meldal-Johnsen from Beck, Air, Ladytron, Ben Barnett from Kind Of Like Spitting (Barsuk Records, Hush Records), Jeremy Castillo from the Los Angeles based rock band Mighty Six Ninety, and Tyler Blake from the DJ-remix duo Young Americans/Classixx.
