22 years ago in Pensacola Florida a Birmingham woman gave
birth to a beautiful dark eyed dark haired baby boy. Christopher Ramon Correa
was fathered by a Oklahoma born Texas raised Hispanic father. Some say the baby
boy had the best of both worlds. Who would of thought. At the age of eighteen
months his mother secretly left his father and took the boy to Birmingham
Alabama to start his life. Custody battles in the late eighties early nineties
werent very easy but were very common.
Sent to a high risk juvenile prison at the age of 17 there's was little hope for
the little Chris. "My best friend died from an overdose while I was locked up
and I guess I just lost it," he says. His parents income decreased with the
economy and they moved to Indiana while there son was confined. Little did they
know there young man had written his first fifteen track album while searching
for freedom. "Writing again became my best and yet again my only friend," says
Chris. He was released and moved back to Birmingham with his mother. Reuniting
with his mother was difficult and didn't last long. Six months to be exact,
before he moved to Indiana to rejoin his father, step-mother, and most of all
his granny. "My folks got jobs at a nursing home so my granny could get the care
she deserved. He began recording in Evansville Indiana at the age of 18. Knowone
wanted to hear down south knowledge mixed with street credible stories from a
140 pound white kid. He saved his money and moved back to Pensacola Florida and
lived from house to house.
Searching for a record deal was soon to pay off, he thought. He met a CEO of a
label called Blue Sky Records and gave him all he had. "They was pretty much
paying for my studio time, but due to my eagerness to shine I was somewhat taken
advantage of when my lyrics were stolen," said Chris about the experience. His
grandmother died and all hell broke loose. Went wild again and was sent to
county jail and awaited trial from nine months. He knew the whole time he was
awaiting that trial date, this would be his last stop at a place like this. He
was credited for time served and released. No job, no money, nobody but a pen
once again.
I couldn't wait till my cousin got out of Fed so we could make it happen, but
being patient was growing to be a burden rather then a virtue." He recorded his
first tape and started selling copies on foot to get gas money to give his
partner to take him to perform at local shows. It was a small breakthrough to
see a young cat so small, with such big dreams and a big heart. "It's a lot
tougher then anyone would think, making it big. I'm not trying to make it big I'm
tryna make it known." , said Chris. Now known as Cremro (Christopher Ramon
Correa) Smith (some make it to heaven). He is currently doing all he can managed
by himself to blow. Stressing in the Panhandle. Pensacola Florida 2009.
