About Me

We have been writing and playing our own music, for a number of years now, with dancing specifically in mind. The result is a unique driving acoustic sound.Alan is composer and architect of all of the tunes that we play. Having studied bagpipes with inspirational players such as Mike York from England and Gunter Bauweraerts from Belgium, Alan applies his extensive study of traditional dance music from the regions of Britain and France to writing new tunes with dance specifically in mind.Julie has over the years been influenced musically by a number of talented local musicians. She began playing for dancing in 1994 when she was invited to join the Newlyn Reelers. She is passionate about her Cornish roots and has played with Penzance's own Golowan Band since the modern revival of the Golowan festival in 1991.Mike provides the all important rhythmic base for the band's distinctive dance style. Having played the guitar since boyhood he bought a David Oddy Cello Mandolin in 1994 having seen the instrument used by Show of Hands. In 2000 he picked up a Melodeon for the first time. Influenced by the mighty Andy Cutting he has studied contemporary melodeon technique with leading players such as Jo White and Julian Sutton.
