About Me

The music will not sing out to you; it will not grab your attention through effort or charisma. Like a raspberry, it will not compare in sweetness to cake. It is fresh squeezed honey-lemonade in a world of redbulls and rockstars. It is more real than it is pretty, more raw than synthetic. One listen may not hook you, but many listens may drown you and sink you deeper than you thought you would go. This isnt a "good" or a "bad" thing. It may take you into emotions you've been avoiding, and it may take you where you've been wanting to go. It touches upon the themes of love, sadness, appreciation, grief, and hope. It is expression without agenda, expression from the darkest moments to the enlightened moments that grace the the dust of ordinary moments with diamonds and ash. Please listen to the album "Stars and Scars" and see where the music takes you.

Hear friends and fans describe their experience of listening to Mikael G.K. in their own words :
"People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies. Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you. Be honest and sincere anyway.
What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight. Create anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, will often be forgotten. Do good anyway.
Give the best you have, and it will never be enough. Give your best anyway.
In the final analysis, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway."

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: www. m i k a e l g k .com
Band Members: ..Me, my alter egos, my angels, my demons, my immaturity, my divinity, my stupidity, my wisdom, my self-deprecation, my self-confidence, my self-awareness, my soul's pure light, my shadows, and all the wars waged and love made.

Special thanks to two friends of mine, both wonderful and talented human beings: Laurel Hauck for her vocals on "I Can Pretend" and Tyler Lewis (of The B Foundation) for producing "Any Stop."

"If there is light in the soul,
There will be beauty in the person.
If there is beauty in the person,
There will be harmony in the house.
If there is harmony in the house,
There will be order in the nation.
If there is order in the nation,
There will be peace in the world."
~Chinese Proverb

Influences:
Tracy Chapman:
"No words to say
No words to convey
This feeling inside I have for you

Deep in my heart
Safe from the guards
Of intellect and reason
Leaving me at a loss
For words to express my feelings

Deep in my heart
Deep in my heart
Look at me losing control
Thinking I had a hold
But with feelings this strong
I'm no longer the master
Of my emotions."

Leonard Cohen:
"Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah
Hallelujah"

Bob Dylan:
"How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, 'n' how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, 'n' how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind."

Counting Crows:
"I was down at the New Amsterdam staring
at this yellow-haired girl
Mr. Jones strikes up a conversation with this
black- haired flamenco dancer
She dances while his father plays guitar
She's suddenly beautiful
We all want something beautiful
Man I wish I was beautiful"

Marc Cohn:
"Yeah I'm coming to see you but I really can't wait
There's just a few things I needed to say
Like why were you hiding so much of yourself?
Why were you living for somebody else?

Well I know that I've always been looking for you
But lately it's not such a hard thing to do
'Cause it seems like inside every woman I know
There's a girl of mysterious sorrow
A girl of mysterious sorrow"

Red Hot Chili Peppers:
"Sometimes I feel
Like I don't have a partner
Sometimes I feel
Like my only friend
Is the city I live in
The city of angels
Lonely as I am
Together we cry"

John Lennon:
"When I was about twelve, I used to think I must be a genius but nobody's noticed. I used to think, either I'm a genius or I'm mad — which is it? I used to think, well, I can't be mad, because nobody's put me away; there-fore, I'm a genius. I mean, genius is a form of madness, and we're all that way. But I used to be a bit coy about it, you know, like me guitar playing. I didn't become something when the Beatles made it or when you heard about me; I've been like this all me life. But it was obvious to me. Why didn't they put me in art school? Why didn't they train me? Why did they keep forcing me to be a f*ckin' cowboy like the rest of them? I was different, I was always different. Why didn't anybody notice me? A couple of teachers would encourage me to be something or other, to draw or to paint —to express myself. But most of the time they were trying to beat me into being a f*ckin' dentist or teacher. And then the f*ckin fans tried to beat me into being a f*ckin' Beatle."
Sounds Like: A beggar and a wise man having tea.
The full moon over the trees.
An elephant snoring.
Ugly comfortable shoes.

A freight train in the distance,
the crackle of coals beneath smoke
a rattle snake frozen in its tracks
floor boards creaking.

A fist fight in a silent film
the hum of an oven that heats a pie
a beautiful girl who can't turn heads
chocolate left in the car.
